    I have a alienware m17x R3, i7-2720QM, 8gb DDR3 (32GB on its way) and a GTX 460m.

I wanted the absolute Easiest and Safest way to upgrade my GPU and to which one for the the cheapest price avaliable.

    What would be my options!

Well the cheapest would probably be the ATi 6970m. For best performance and easy installation you can either go for the 6990m or the 580m. And you could probably get both of them for a shade more then you would pay for the 6970m.
These cards require no driver mods or BIOS alterations. Just install card, download drivers and enjoy.

Upgradeyourlaptop/Eurocom on ebay offer a good deal on "uograde kits" Which include thermal pads, paste, the correct screws and, obviously, the card. Just remeber, if your going to switch to AMD, you may need a new heatsink.

    Good Luck!

the heatsinks should be compatible, but your going to have to deal with more heat at the same time. Not a huge deal though. Good luck!! :)

Can you buy the video card direct from Dell?
