So i just traded my gaming desktop for a used m17x r3 and sometimes when I play games the lights are flashing red. I am wondering if this is normal or if this is a warning that it is over heating or having a graphics malfunction? I have updated the gtx 460 drivers and am looking into a program that will monitor my temps. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Is it GAMES or a certain game? Because some games can take control of your LED lighting to offer extra effects.

If your game is listed here, then it's most definitely AlienFX reactions to the game's various states (such as low health, getting hit etc..). Third party applications access to AlienFX can also be disabled if it bothers you. Just right click the alien head system tray icon and uncheck the Enable 3rd Party AlienFX access option.
I really doubt your laptop is behaving abnormally. -
Ah okay I only noticed it a few times so far, only game I have tried so far is neverwinter. I did the go dark mode and havn't noticed it since.
Also am monitoring temps and there between 60-79 c -
Your temps are normal, though on the high end of normal. You could always use a can of air to blow out the vents if you're concerned. -
Playing bf3 does the same, you get shot, lights get red and blinky, very surreal...

Metro Last Light is pretty cool as well. When you're in shadow it's all dark, move into a lighted area and the keyboard gradually gets whiter. Get close to a heat source and it glows red - as well as the usual flashing when your about to die...
