hi guys. I have an old m17x r3 laying around with a confirmed bricked lcd. I plugged in a 15 inch lcd and believe it or not, it boots fine with it. booted into linux no problem. however the other one, the 17 it came with gives 8 beeps and a black backlit when plugged in.

i think the EDID is corrupted. it has the LG LP173WF1 (TL) (B3) which is notorious for being a victim EDID bricking. the system was purchased off a guy on ebay who got the 8 beeps, so I presume he installed EVGA precision or something. how do I fix this?

Why not buy a new 17" screen and install it?
Considering the 15'' works, just get a new one.

    Good luck :)
This is the best I could find. Hope it helps as well.

    okay, WOW!

I just debricked both LCD's using the instructions you both posted. It's booting from both now! Thanks so much!! @t456 @Mr. Fox you two especially. I just can't believe it worked..

to anyone else getting these bricked lcd's, follow the instructions in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...levo-lcd-panels.779449/page-158#post-10090770 by mr fox and download t456's lubuntu edid fixer here http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...bricking-systems.781467/page-23#post-10170202

First of all, happy new year Folks.....

Fortunately, it's not a good start to begin this year for me. My display got dark just after I do some cleaning and repaste my GPU. It started with the famous 8 Beep. Trying to plug Off and On the GPU card and it manage to boot, but the display still dark. I need to use an external monitor via HDMI out to able to use the laptop. Can I use this method you mentioned above to solve this problem ??

ps: My display isn't completely dark, still can saw the backlight and can see the difference when i adjust the brightness using the keyboard hot keys.

    Any help is appreciated...

I think it would be worth a go. download t456's live boot and use mr fox's instructions. i linked them in this thread. t456's instructions are for retrieving your EDID and you won't have to do that, but he included most of the EDIDs for m17x's in the folder included with his live boot. you'll need to open your LCD to get the model number though.
