Here it goes.
I upgraded my m17x r3 to a gtx 580m from the original 460m. I have the 3d setup. I have had no problems with the upgrade until I tried using the display port plug to an external Asus vg24qe monitor.
If I use a display port to hdmi adapter, it works great. If I use a mini display port to dp cable, or a display port 1.2 cable with mini adapter the screen will work until I change video mode like launching a game or trying to change
monitor configuration. When I do that, the external monitor says no connection and the screen on the laptop goes blank. The only thing I can do is a power reset.
Any thoughts?

Hi there,
Assuming you try the Fn-F6 to switch the displays, what driver are you using. All the drivers post 314.22 have been experiencing a lot of external monitor issues and black screen lockups. Worth a shot

Thank you. I am running 320.49, I will downgrade and see what happens

Thank you for the info. I installed the 314.22 drivers and everything works great as designed.
