Got it last week and been trying out games, lags on most games in high settings, even trying to play a simple game like League of legends I get 30fps, my old gaming pc with a 9800gtx with max settings hits there cap of 60 the entire time. Not very happy with it. Also I have the 6970. I tried calling dell to return it and buy the m18x but they won't take it back with out a 15% restocking fee. Feels pretty lousy for a 2700 dollar laptop

Where's this "vsync" people keep talking about? I can't find it anywhere except in some games.

could be that ccc has vsync activated for all apps, you can choose "application decide" or something like that (I do not use english OS xD), and then every game will set up its configuration with priority

The vsync setting basically limits your frame rate to no greater than the refresh rate of the display (60Hz or 120Hz). The history of the setting goes back to the days of CRT displays which commonly had refresh rates of 120Hz or higher.

Here is an excerpt from an article on Wikipedia that explains in in some detail:

    Source: Vertical Synchronization Details

Prior to adding the ability to enable vsync, or with vsync turned off, one would see an ugly "tearing" (that's tear as in tear the paper or tear the image) from left to right on the screen as one frame image was forced to display over top the previous image. It can be ugly and distract from visual quality.

The end result, turning Vertical Synchronization on provides a better, more fluid image quality at the cost of frame rates, although even limiting a 60Hz display to 60 FPS should be more than adequate for fluid game play in any game. Consider this, most Hollywood movies are filmed at 24FPS and newer BluRay / HD display combinations display it as such and it looks fantastic ...

Of course like any hard core gamer, I want max frames per second, but with the best visual quality possible ...

I play League often, my rig is in my sig. I get around 80-160 fps max settings (200-350 on lowest), but v-sync is off. 1080p though and everything is on max, including shadows. Make sure in the game you set the fps to benchmark or League will cap the fps. And v-sync doesn't need to be on for League, like I say I play with 100+ fps on max settings with it off and have yet to see any screen tearing etc.

Also, be sure that you have the power plugged in and you are using the d-gpu not the i-gpu (can be switched by hitting FN + F11) and that you are the high performance power plan (Not Balanced or Power Saver). Good luck.

I completely agree. I think vsync is a legacy setting which is not really relevant with today's crazy powerful GPUs that have HUGE frame buffers. Although if one does experience tearing effects, turning vsync on should stop it from occurring.

Yep, and our 6970M's don't disappoint. I play StarCraft 2 on ultra/max settings with v-sync off and it tears ever so slightly which just tells us that the card can handle a hell of a lot on it's own. SC2 is pretty intense in the graphics area, like in custom games or normal where there's 500+ ultralisk or some kind of mob lol.

With all the vsync talk, I have notice alot of the games I have been playing (Crysis, Homefront, Killing Floor, Red Faction Guerilla, Aliens vs Predator) they all experience the tearing unless I put on vsync which lowers the framerate by 20-30fps. Also, I noticed with this graphics card that you cant really max out the settings in games unless you put the resolution on 720p. Putting it at 1080p gives around 30fps, and makes the game seem choppy.

Isnt 30fps decent though? At 60 fps its so much smoother and anythign lower is just annoying now. I know most Xbox 360 games run at 30fps but doesnt seem choppy when turning left to right.

Also, turning on the anti-alising lowers the framerate dramatically but makes it look so much better so is there a solution to some of this? Under CCC I tried to max everything out and it made my games look pretty bad so I put it back to the default settings.

Any recommendations for what to change under CCC?? Trilinear buffing? Morophological AA, ect??
