How reliable are these things? Are the 7 beeps of hell something to stress over? I am considering rebuilding one (Already have about 70% of the parts). I need to purchase a motherboard and a few other parts for it for it as mine is fried. I know Alienware are generally extremely well built and tough, but the 7 beeps turns me off.

It's not a known issue or anything. We didn't have many reports back in the day. I wouldn't worry about it.

    Alright, cool.

Thanks. I wonder what causes it.

7 beeps was definitely not a widespread issue. However be wary on the M17x R4, any shipped with defective audio chips that would spontaneously disappear after sleep or reboot, and would be a big pain to re-enable it. Dell could never fix the problem outside of a motherboard swap with a newer revision, which they no longer have.
