For about the last two weeks, every time I boot my m17x r3 the first two keys to be pressed make a weird sound through the speakers, best described as sounding a bit like R2D2. It never happens again until the next time my m17x boots.

This has coincided with starting to let my 4 year old daughter "play at typing", so she could have accidentally set some kind of Accessibility setting, but I can't find anything obvious. No new software has been installed.

Any thoughts on what it might be? It's only a very minor irritation at the moment, just worried it might be an early sign of something major.

Yes, it definitely might be Windows "Sticky Keys" or whatever they call that feature for disabled people. May it would be good to get your 4 year old a dilapidated $100 laptop from a Goodwill or Salvation Army donation to practice typing so something doesn't get seriously messed up next time. Broken 360 and PS3 game controllers are also great gifts for small children. They can play right along with dad (or mom) without hurting anything.

Cheers, I'll check that tonight after work. Weird how it only happens twice, though, and no dialogue box appears on screen.

I bought her a Nexus 7 to distract her away from my Alienware, but she wants to "play on Daddy's computer like Daddy does".

That's understandable. Our kids are definitely more important than our machines and imitation is the highest form of flattery. Daddy's love and interest is priceless to our kids as well.

If you take (even fake) an inordinate degree of interest in her Nexus 7 she might get possessive and put you in your place, Dad. ;)
