Hello I have owned my r4 for three years now, and sad to say I have only started to look for information on the web last week about upgrades and such. I must say I am amazed at all the information in this website. I have been looking to upgrade my CPU from the 3630qm to the 3490xm once I find a good deal on ebay. What do I need to do to prepare my r4 for the upgrade. I cannot find any info on requirements for the upgrade. The only one i have found is the m14x r2 fan mod(which is coming in the mail from china anytime now).

I mostly use it for photo editting in lightroom and video editing in premiere pro. The only game I play is league of legends and my r4 handles that no sweat. I do not wish to buy a new laptop since my r4 still serves me well. Just hoping to beef it up some more. I just upgraded to an SSD boot drive(thanks to you guys!!!) and it is like a whole new computer, thinking of replacing the hdd to ssd for cache drive.

I was also thinking of upgrading my RAM from 16gb to 32GB but since i have windows 7 home premium only 16gb is supported. I looked into using windows anytime upgrade but found that the service is shut down. Only hope is buy OEM w7 pro(expensive route) or upgrade to windows 10(risky route, I havent found 100 positive review of w10 in an alienware).

So any info would be helpful

So the only way now is to clean install an OEM huh. Maybe ill stick with the 16gb then. Do you have any info on the 3940xm? Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah, as far as I know the only way is a clean install.

The 3940XM was already in mine when I got it so I am not sure what it takes to upgrade. @Mr. Fox might know.

Finally installed my CPU fan mod. Now my r4 sounds like a fighter plane!!! Now to hunt down a nicely priced 3940xm

You can put in a 3940xm without issue, Just put it in and boot it up

As for windows, you can probably find a cheap key on other forums, as cheap as $10 for a pro key.
