hey what type of ram is used in these m17x's from factory? I have 6gb ( 1x2gb and 1x4gb) am looking at having 8gb but would like to keep the ram the same brand for what ever reason......anyone know where to get good replacement ram? or anyone got a 4gb stick laying around after upgrading they want to sell.

    Hi theres,

The Ram brands that I have seen in the M17x machines are sodimms "Nanya" DDR3 1333Mhz and "ELPIDA" DDR3 1333Mhz made in China.

The 4gb sodimm DDR3 1333Mhz ram sticks that I am using atm to make up my 8gb's are Transcend and Gskill respectively.

However any brand of ram that is a "sodimm DDR3 1333Mhz (PC3-10600) either 2gb or 4gb stick will work in these machines. Also the brand of the ram doesn't matter when trying to run in dual channel mode, just the size of the 2 sticks need to be equal to utilise the full dual channel mode function. Cheers.
