    Hi,

I'm thinking about getting myself a new m17x but my R2 presently serves me well and there's no urgency in updating it. I know Dell/Alienware are usually tight-lipped about future release plans and for good reason, however, does anyone have a general idea about what to expect and when on the m17x for 2014? When will we see an R5 and are there any CPU/GPU releases in 2014 that are particularly important to wait for? I know there'll always be something new and better on the horizon, but there's no harm in timing purchase to just after a major CPU and/or GPU release.

R6 bro....R5 is already on the market :)

    R6 will be probably just a CPU/GPU refresh in a R5 chassis...approx 10-20% more power i think

I want to see an AMD 8-core cpu in the new alienwares, I currently have the AMD FX-8350 8-core cpu in my desktop overclocked to 4.8GHz, and the performance of the beast is overwhelming. Hopefully one day AMD will get off their butts and make a hardcore mobile cpu so Alienware can have the option of putting them in :D

Anyone know some more about this? In the old days I could call Dell and talk to a person who would know a bit about this, but today - at least here in Denmark - I could only chat online and this clearly with a person who didn't know anything about the product.

To my horror I also realize that I can only order a m17x with standard hdd - no SSD option in Denmark. What do you guys do who live in countries where the SSD option is not available? Order it as you can and manually install a top-of-the-line SSD yourself? Seems strange that this would be necessary for such a costly a laptop?

im still bummed that you have to buy another caddy to mount a second hard drive and its not cheap.

i dont think there will be a refresh till mid next year when gpus and cpu gets a refresh. or when r9 290x becomes mobile.

waiting half a year is ok with me - I just need to update my r2 sometime during 2014. what cpu/gpu release specifically would you expect? I've been googling intel and nvidia release plans but haven't been able to find anything specific. what is the r9 290x?

That type of information is usually not available anywhere. When anything comes up it's usually speculation. The new releases sometimes take months and some other years.
