I believe that is the CCFL panel since it should say in that string RED GREEN BLUE if it were the RGB ...

But since they dont offer the LCD screen on new machines any more maybe you will get lucky and get the RGB..

They certainly do have some CCFL screens laying around though since they tried to replace my RGB with the CCFL ...

Maybe you can call and find out if it is infact the RGB and if not request to have that screen put in your machine ;)...

well i started with a dell inspiron e1505, so i'm not complaining at all. this is my 5th "dell" computer, 4 of which were free replacement PCs, worked my way through the whole XPS line up to alienware. :)

I think it may be the CCFL monitor. The packing slip for my M17x lists 8WG28 as the part number for the RGB monitor. However, because mine is an Aus/NZ model, the part number may be different for the same part.

Well i'm happy without the RGB tbh, i would've loved one, but as long as i got my 1200p like my m1730 had all is well with me. Dell has been really good to me (which doesn't seem to the story with a lot of people on NBR i've noticed). I've never had a major issue with them, i call up, and if the person can't help me they send me up the ladder to the "manager of the escalations dept" every time and then i get a replacement laptop that's usually a major upgrade. my m1730 was rocking a core 2 duo @ 2.4ghz, so a core i7 isn't a problem for me. :) especially with HT and turbo

my service tag on wuxga says 8WG28 as well. It doesnt say anything about RGB though. I'm assuming all WUXGA's on M17x are RGB's.

I believe they have a few ways of wording it...

    Mine said

    9PHFF Module,Liquid Crystal Display,17WUXGA,Light Emitting Diode,M17XR2

But no where in that line does it say LCD but does say LED...

Edit: Then again it does say Liquid Crystal Display lol so there is LCD shoved in there somewhere...

Hopefully you get the RGB but if not as you say you'll still be happy ;)...

well mine says LCD, i won't argue if i don't get the RGB, they've given me plenty. haha :) appreciate all the info guys, you're great.

When it says "1 32WJV Module,Card,Graphics,M98XT,DUAL,Mid-life Kicker $173.36" i did my research and i found out the M98Xt is the 4870, dual means, 2 of them i assume? what does mid-life kicker mean?

I'm in a similar boat. I have an M17x with a fried 280m (got to about 80c and started to burn my fingers through the keyboard). I'm also getting an i7 replacement under warranty and I've been able to identify pretty much all of the parts from the order except for the video. I have the same line:

    1 32WJV Module,Card,Graphics,M98XT,DUAL,Mid-life Kicker

...but I have no idea what that means. Hybrid crossfire with dual -somethings-. No idea if I getting a pair of 4780s or 5780s for my trouble and searching for that 32WJV part number on google finds.... well... this thread and that's about it. I also found references to the M98XT, but that by itself doesn't ID the x-fire. If I'm not mistaken, that's the integrated card as part of the hybrid SLI. There are many online references of the M98XT -with- 4780s because for a long time that was the standard load offered on the M17X R2. The 5780s didn't come along till later.

Anybody know what 32WJV part number is? If I can ID that it'll certainly clinch it. Jsucool76, I'm curious to find out what you get today.

I had an R1 for a year before they shipped me my replacement. I wouldn't go so far as to call the battery life "good". :)

If I cranked everything down to bare minimum, lowered the display backlight to about 1/3rd normal and just watched video instead of actually interacting with the laptop I could make it usually almost all the way through a 2.5 hour flight (taking into account takeoff and landing, less than 2 hours total of usage).

well i had my R1 for about 3-4 days, lol, i'm on my r2 right now, it's pretty cool. how is it i tell if my monitor is the RGB or not?

Alright, so i've got my R1 and R2 side by side at the moment, i was doing some 3dmark benchmarking for lulz, and my R1's screen is FAR FAR brighter than my R2, the R2 seems almost like it has a yellow tint to it, and yes, the brightness is all the way up. Any fixes?

the reds are REALLLLY Bright... on the dell account page, this is what it should say if you got the RGB:

    320-8856 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)

    or

K1NFP LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, RED/GREEN/BLUE..., LIGHT EMITTING DIODE..., AG, SAMSUNG...

Alright, well i made my own little test. I went into paint on both laptops, and just used the bucket to make each monitor (the same color of) red, and it looked far far redder on the r2 than the r1. It barely looked red on the r1, it looked very faded, where as on the r2 it looked like a full page of just all out red.

Edit: the yellow tint turned out to be related to True color (32 bit) vs High Color (16 bit) if i put high color on everything brightens up.

Keep it simple. What resolution is it? If it's 1900 by 1200, then it should be RBG, if not, it's not.

Yeah, my R2 is 1900 x 1200, but the actual spec listing didn't say "LED" "Light Emitting Diode" or "RED GREEN BLUE" Anywhere only reason i'm askin :)

Run pc wiz or everest and post the display info here and someone will likely point out to you what you have.

My service tag doesnt say anything about RGB, but I was told it was by the tech support, and I'm pretty sure it is since colors look amazing.

8WG28 MODULE..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, LIGHT EMITTING DIODE..., M17X10

I didn't even know there is WUXGA that wasn't RBG on M17x.

R610K is dual CCFL, iirc. It's the same panel as the RGB version, but with different backlight.

This is most definitely the RGB-LED display. It's the same part number as mine, and I have the RGB.

One of the threads around has some wallpapers you can use to show off your display. Take a look at the one of the flaming guitar. It looks amazing on the RGB screen.
