You should email or call to find out what's taking so long. I've heard of the depot holding on to systems until warranty runs out, then claiming they can't fix it.

Where are you from? If you're in the USA the Technical Support here can help you.

It's possible they are also having a hard time getting parts as well, but as J.Dre has said give them a call and ask....

When mine was sent in it was gone less then a week so I would presume that it may have something to do with a problem getting parts, such as the MB.

My laptop was recently sent to the depot too.
I could follow the repair progress on the Dell website using my service tag. It was only two weeks later that I saw replacement parts were ordered, and I received my laptop back again a week later (so I had to wait about three weeks in total I guess).
So apparently it's not that unusual that it can take some time till you have your machine back.

They are most likely out of the part(s) you may need and are waiting for them to arrive at their facility.

If they have the M290x, that's likely what you'll get, in the new Alienware 17.

Oh man. I just sent in my unit this afternoon for a failed video card and failing/problematic motherboard. I really hope they're not out of parts, a replacement 17 simply would not do it. Haswell + radical redesign (that I absolutely despise).... please please have good spare parts.

880M is a garbage GPU plagued with heat/throttle problems. You would be better off with the R9 M290X

I say go for the 780m and tell them to throw a 1 terabyte backup drive in there for the difference

I doubt they have 780M's in stock. They're not even in production anymore. I'd accept the 880M machine, sell it to someone who doesn't know a thing about the 880M - brand new, don't open it - and then buy another laptop with the 980M when it comes out.

The 880M is fine if your'e not ocing and benchmarking.. Hell, all you need is good cooling and some great thermal paste and your fine.. I would take that option if available..

Well, I got my m17x R4 back with a functional 7970M, but as soon as I turn it on right out of the box, I am greeted by the familiar "Red X" over the audio icon, even though the service rep and I both noted audio problems. Smh alienware....they didn't even try to replace the motherboard.

I've gotten 2 MB changes, both had defects. Maybe a third time will do the charm?

That's the problem with refurb crap.. My 17x was a refurb and the guy sold it to me on ebay as he had bought it new.. To make it work like it is now, I had to have CPU heatsink changed, Keyboard changed, MB replaced... Thank god its working good as new.. Dell wanted to replace my 7970M with another refurb when the driver kept crashing and refused to give me a 680M... I took the risk and stuck with my 7970M and its been working great... Once I get a job, I'm dumping this unreliable Alienware if the new 17 isn't out, I'm getting the G751.. Asus at least worked for me for 4 years with no problems...
