A few days ago I was going to use my webcam and noticed it is not recognized by any of the programs (even the aliensense at login).

Im guessing its a driver issue but i cant seem to find the drivers on dell's website. Am i missing something?

Im running windows 7 and bios version A05

    many thanks!

    Alex

The webcam in Windows 7 uses the OS's native Microsoft Driver. There is no specifc AW/Dell driver for it. When you open Aliensense, be sure to select the FA webcam - I'm not posting from my system so I cant be specific. Its there. Try both options. As for the other apps, make sure they are set to access the Integrated webcam and NOT the FA one.

thing is.. i dont get ANY webcams in the list. FA or other, nothing.

I know it works because i have used it in the past. Cant seem to bring it back though. Any ideas? what do i have to look for in the device manager? maybe if I uninstall it from there i might get it back after rebooting.

    thanks

the webcam works. using win 7 on my m17x i see it working properly in my "Devices n Printers" lik from the startup menu. It reads as "Laptop intergrated webcam 2m", and i didnt install any drivers. If u try uing the Aliensense you'll notice it works. But i dont use it.

But how to get google chat to find the webcam i dont know!!

you might want to update your chipset drivers (both of them) and see if it appears

I had exactly the same issue which, like you, resolved itself the next day. So while it looks to be extremely rare, it's not an isolated incident.

I could not identify anything that could have triggered it (or resolved it) and there were no driver updates or system changes. Aliensense gave me an error message and would not recognise/activate the webcam and had me login manually.

The only way I could get it to activate while within Windows to use with Skype/Cyberlink YouCam software (which did not recognise any installed webcam device) was to force activation via the <FN> + <F9> key combination. It would not activate for Aliensense at all.

Like you, strangely, the next day it was fully resolved and I've not had any issues with it since.
