    Hi there,

Have just upgraded from my M9700 Aurora to a Dell certified refurbished m17x-r2.
    System specs are as follows:

    i7 620m
    4gb ram 1066mhz
    WUXGA
    Dual 4870
Samsung PM800 128gb SSD with TRIM
    500gb 7200rpm

The Windows experience rating i am getting is very low compared to the following review Notebookcheck: Review Alienware M17x (i7/HD 4870 X2) Notebook

    My results are as follows:

The results in the review are the following:

Why is there such a big difference when the two laptops have almost the same specs? I have installed an SSD which should obviously raise the bar over 5.9 which is almost always the standard scenario but nothing.
I was expecting at least the same results on the dual 4870 graphics cards since they are the same. I checked crossfire also with GPU-Z and they are enabled. For God's sake, at home i get 7.2 with a 5850!!!!
Can anyone help me please? Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks in advance.
    Tio

You should ignore the WEI scores as these can be manually edited to show whatever you want. If you do want to know some figures for your system, run some other benchmark programs (furmark, 3dmark 06/vantage, etc.) that are far more reliable.

You probably have bad drivers or something.

Your score you posted shows a 3600 not 5870's. Plus no matter what WEI means nothing period.

WEI of the SSD should be higher. is the SSD new ? was it used before ? how do you know it has TRIM enabled ? maybe it's worth doing a secure erase ?

Because WEI is shoddy, often displays virtually random results and shouldn't be taken seriously. Just ignore it and run some real benchmarks and especially real world applications/games instead to see if your system is running properly. If it's not, then you can start being worried or even "disappointed".

Wei scores your Samsung SSD based on HDD criteria. Both my systems score 5.9 due to SSD.

I got a nice boost in my hdd, 7 on the wei score after i secure erased the SSD and tweaked windows for it. Especially on a refurb, you don't know how much the SSD has been used.

That is the upper limit for machines with 4gb of RAM. We figured that one out over on the Dell M6500 thread.

Once you get above 4gb, it will show you the proper speed and score.

Still not sure of why Microsoft chose to do this.

Drivers will also greatly impact the other scores. Still not sure of what is going on with all of your scores though...

    WEI=FAIL

Don't worry about WEI, your scores look good, if you'd like Check the SSD Tips/tricks/benchmarks thread and on page 11-18 or something like that was where I was learning to do the secure erase via Ubuntu.

4K QD32 are really low. Not sure how important they are though..
4K are not very high too, don't know what to expect from a Samsung, maybe it's normal ?

You got me curious, so here is a comparison. I ran it two min ago

not sure on the 4K QD32 since I am to lazy to get that version of Crystal Disk at the moment, but here are my results for the Samsung 256GB in my M11x. I'm using the M11x since I have the M17x torn apart next to me reappling thermal pads/paste and inserting a 920xm

Not quite sure, but from my other 256GB Dell Samsung SSD was something like 93%. I wouldn't worry about it. From what I hear it can change based on the version of CDI you use. Something with the calculating algorithm.

Also, all SSD's will show a lower health percentage than a normal hdd, due to wear levelling.

    From Intel's own specs:

    Only the i7 7x0QM, 8x0QM and 9x0XM chips can use DDR3-1333.

It doesn't mean you can't install 1333 memory with lesser than 720qm processors. They will just use it in 1066 mode, so if you are planning to upgrade 1333 might be the way to go.
