    hello fellow notebookreviewers,
It's been long since I posted anything here so I am disinformed about anything that I potentially should be aware of so, right up front, my apologies :)

The problem my laptop is experiencing is:

recently I started playing some graphically intense games (I used to only play WoW, didnt have much time for anything else) but these two weeks I started playing titles like Max Payne 3 and Prototype 2. I noticed that in any graphically intense game I run, each 3-5 seconds in-game there's a one-second FPS drop, or, perhaps it's a glitch of a sort.
I tried to reinstall video drivers but full wipe didn't exactly work out, the 12.6 drivers did not install display driver for the 6970m that runs in my lappy, so I had to install the version that windows reccomended (dated back to 2010) and then install the 12.6 on top of it, this did not solve the problem.

It is reaally annoying to experience something like that.
Anyone got any idea of what might help or maybe experienced the same thing?

    Any input would be appreciated

tried going up to the 12.7 drivers? Might be worth a shot.

I had 11.9 drivers all the time when I had the issue, going to 12.6 didn't solve it but I guess the process might've been wrong. If i totally nuke drivers and reisntall, the CCC won't install drivers for VGA input. that's another problem. it says that the driver is not supported and I have to install the one that is provided by my manufacturer. In other words, only installing them on dell drivers works.

yeh that makes sense since you need the Dell drivers for your IGPU. Installing over the top of the Dell drivers has always worked well for me.

Are you booting into safe mode, deleting the drivers with drive sweeper and running cc cleaner etc? Disable wifi when you uninstall drivers to stop windows updating for you.

Perhaps you should download 3dmark11, run it and see if your scores are comparable?

haha, yea that is exactly the process. so if I understood you correctly you would suggest me to:
    1) go to dell's m17xr3 support website - download video drivers from there (ver. 8 something)
    2) wipe out to the fkuk the drivers on my laptop (uninstall, reboot to safemode, run driversweeper, run driver cleaner pro, run cc cleaner, reboot)
    3) install dell driver
    4) install 12.6 (or 12.7 betas?) which one works on urs atm?

Also, have u played mp3 or prototype2? any issues on maxxout? or at least on the settings game installs when u turn it on by default (mid-highs)

I had the 6970 up untill last week.

I was using the 12.6 drivers and Max Payne was running smooth as butter on high settings. 40fps on average. (if i remember rightly, thought the game was gash and unistalled it lol)

12.7 is pretty glitchy on 7970m, at least on Skyrim anyway, i get good FPS on ultra but the HUD is all distorted.

Go with 12.6, follwing the steps you described. Then run 3dmark11 and see what comes back.

    Thats what i would do.

just to add, are you monitoring your temps?

@ Joe85 thanks for help mate,
Yes, I am monitoring the temps, the highest I've had was 83 degrees, granted that I had the graphics card OC'ed to 800/1100. Now its on 61-72 max. I'll do all the required steps and will post back.
regarding MP3, I loved first two parts, I think they (at least first one) were #1 games of all times. sorta felt like ol good times :) but i uninstalled it right after I passed it. shameful how they made it. proto2 I like a lot more, especially the flying feature. but the game's too easy for me atm.

UPD: I just reinstalled everything, it seems that each time im trying to install CCC it finishes the install with some errors (providing a changelog, I dont understand anything about) however, for now things run smoothly. I did not test explicitly, need more time later on today or tomorrow.

I seem to be getting the same issue with 12.6 and 12.7 on the 7970m.

Do you have CCC installed? Mine wouldnt but after a bit of reasearch, i discovered that disbaling anti virus while installing enables CCC to be installed.

    LoL I didn't know that, joe85.

Further testing showed that the stuttering is gone indeed. but now when I installed 12.6 drivers my saphire trixxx doesn't load saying "improper argument" meaning it didn't detect AMD video card, the widget I got running says GPU Core clock is at 100 mhz and memory clock at 40.5 mhz. when I play games those clocks tick up to usual defaults. Weird?

I do have CCC installed, however the installition went with some errors and I think some components just didn't go through.
