You should hear it start up... The fans are quiet, but should be noticeable when they are kicking up a fuss.

When you start your computer, the fans should blast full out then settle back down. If they don't do so, you may have a problem

Is there a prog that keeps track of hdd or ram temps? I always thought HWMonitor did, but it doesn't apparently. I wonder if Speedfan or NHC still works?

i agree, worked wonders when i was with the DVT/Penryn platform...showed up all specs in the Windows gadget thingy...however the M17X...which i assumed had a more "pure" system than HP would have all the electricals/Temps/Fan speeds on display through the software....but no dice.....any idea what to use HWmonitor can't see more than a temp. and battery life..it's more hopeless than the Everest program

So what's the verdict? What prog monitors temps for everything including hdd and ram? Is there a modern-day prog that shows fan speeds?
