I saw a couple of posts on this already searching the internet but I am curious if anyone ever solved the problem to get the laptop speakers working again. In order for the 765m card to not boot up to a solid white screen I had to disable audio by pressing F2 at start up. I have reinstalled the IDT driver, etc, but to no avail. I still must continue to turn it off to boot the computer which leaves me always having to use headphones.

I saw that this card (the 765m) was a card that was compatible on eurocom, but they failed to mention it was compatible ONLY without sound.

Has anyone ever gotten the external sound working at the same time as the card? If so, please post instructions here. Thanks!

My latest video of BF4 in 1080p played on an m15x with a 970m...

More like the question you should be asking is why would you get a 765M over a 7970M or 680M, which are known working good cards in the M17x R2.

I vaguely remember there being a procedure where you uninstall the audio and video drivers, reboot, disable on board sound, reinstall video drivers (and the nvidia audio driver), reboot, renable onboard sound, and then it should work. However, I'm not sure if this is the correct procedure.

Thats a great question. The reason i did not opt for one of those gpu's is because the heatsink on this m17xr2 is not capable of properly cooling the cards. I had a 6970m that continued to shut the computer off after playing planetside 2 for just 10 or so minutes. I would need a 3-pipe heat sink and i would have to do some cutting, so i had to get a low voltage card and thus went with the 765m.

I would have gone to undervolt the 680M/7970M to keep temps more manageable really, I would return the 765M if possible. Both the 7970M and 680M run cooler than the 6970M/580M by a good margin, and undervolting while keeping stock clocks is completely possible as well. I would go that route, or continue to play whack a mole with trying to make the 765M work.

tried to undervolte the 6970m actually but it wouldn't take on windows 10 running the ati tools, already have a 7970m but that is in my m17xr3, which i took the 6970m out of.... tried using the 970m on both, it just beeped on the m17xr3, and showed weird colors on the RGB screen of the m17xr2. So i continue to use it flawlessly on the m15x, as everything (sound, vga, etc) work.

You must undervolt in the vBIOS (use RadeonBiosEditor for 6970M, or VBE7 for 7970M/8970M/R9 M290X), or kepler bios tweaker for 680M. I think you should return or sell the 765M and get either a late revision 7970M or 680M for the M17x R2

970M/980M will never work in the M17x R3, due to UEFI/GOP boot code incompatability. It will also not work with the M17x R2 RGBLED screen due to it being a high bit panel (maxwell will not work with anything about 6bit channel)

M15x is best platform for VGA upgrade compatibility
