the drivers for the microphone are the IDT audio drivers.

Try turning up the gain and volume? I mean there is only so much you can do to troubleshoot it so if these are not the problem a call to dell to replace the mic's is the only other solution. Also, Would you not like my help because I am an R2 owner?

if you are having issues with the webcam and the mic they are both on one piece of metal behind the screen. You may need to check if it is plugged in, but if you don't feel like opening it up your best bet is to call Dell.

so is it a hardware failure, as I understand it there are 2x mics and unless they both failed at the same time then the interface i.e. motherboard has failed, this is a real bummer for me as I'm away in a country that has no support, also while I was investigating my F10 key fell off, I now have to wait 4 months for a repair grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
