hi i have a laptop with the 5650 and resolution of 1366x768 and at native res i score roughly 5400 in vantage as a gpu score. now im curious about buying a 6990m laptop and was wondering what would the 6990m get in vantage with just the resolution set to 1080p. would it score higher than 5400?

i ask because im interested in real world performance gains at native res. ;)

Way higher than your 5650; in another league.

The vantage graphics score for my 6990 is 12561 at stock speeds, and 14691 at a stable overclock of 830/1130. That's at whatever resolution the free version of vantage runs at (my display is at 1920x1080). My GPU temp peaks at about 70C at stock and about 72C when overclocked.

i know its much higher at the same resolutions, but if you read the post it was comparing them at native resoltions?

can anyone test this for me before i buy? saves me alot of hassle of returning the latop if the performance is equal at native resolutions

5650 is a budget class gfx card

6990 is more of a ferrari

in other words u cant compare as the 6990 will run circles around the circles around that thing lol :p

Review AMD Radeon HD 6990M Graphics Card - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

i currently own the m17x r3 with the 6990 and basicly any game i play runs @ max settings bar arma II as thats just a resource hog.

if u want all out get a m18x with crossfire 6990m if your budget is a tad less for the m17x r3.

the 5650 be like an atari 2600 vs the 6990 be like the xbox 360 and ps3 combined that much of a difference there is ;p

as bandito said with a lil bit of overclocking it will do even better and the alienware laptops are well build with excelent cooling, all comes down to what u want to do with your laptop and what your budget is.

Well, I'm not buying vantage to test this (assuming it is running at a resolution lower than my display). It will certainly be much higher though. To give you an idea, it gets 41+ FPS in the Crysis benchmark at 1920x1080.

6990m doesn't score as high as 6970m on passmark....does anyone know why?

I am not familiar with passmark so I have no idea. In every other benchmark and game I've seen the 6990m significantly outperforms the 6970m. The 6990 is essentially a 6970 with more cores and higher clock rates.

i believe that the 6990m is still fairly new and there isnt proper driver support for them yet, causin it not to perform as its weaker brother.

on paper the 6990 is superior to the 6970 but without proper drivers it doesnt work aswell.

    Hi there Godly Skillz,

The 6990M is a insanely awesome GPU in terms of bang for buck and super duper performance for gaming.

I just ran the test and used the 1920 X 1080p resolution that you requested.

    Here is the result;

I wouldn't say it gives a clear indication of the true powers of the GPU itself but since you asked here it is oles! :p :D
Also to get a true comparison score you would need to run your old GPU on an external monitor or tele that supports 1920 X 1080p to see the gulf in performance of the scores.

    Cheers. :)

Here's another Vantage run at 1920x1080. Probably somewhere between the Chief and this one would be useful for comparison. Completely different class of card, regardless of settings.

Yup GRADE A CLASS GPU card the 6990M definitely is.

My run was with a million things open and running so it most likely accounts for the few hundred points in difference + most of my CCC settings are set to max.

Good luck with your new notebook purchase Godly Skillz
You won't be disappointed with the 6990M.

    PS/ Nice score Revelator! :p
Some X-rated benching right there LOL! :D

    Cheers. :)

    AMD Radeon HD 6990M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

check crysis 2 there, if it runs 35 odd fps on max settings there then crysis 1 will do a fair bit better m8

the results on that link i posted are done with older drivers aswell afaik so there should be a tad better performance.

I don't have it with me so I can't test right now, but on stock clock settings I think it was around 30 FPS on ultra with everything maxed and over 40 FPS with all on very high. You can also improve that by 20% or so if you overclock, so maybe around 35-40 FPS on ultra.

The 6990M mark is based on only 9 scores, and two of those appear to be using the Intel IGP instead of the 6990M. The Intel card scores about 40% of the 6990M 3D score, which does bring down the average. Passmark seems to have trouble with multi-GPU setups.

    Crysis 1 on Stock R3 using 6990M@715/900+2820QM.

    1920x1080, 64-bit, DX10, No AA

    Very High -- 28.105fps
Very High with Shadows & Shaders at High -- 50.88fps
(Visually indistinguishable, at least to me)
