Most likely not. The Nvidia x-bracket is slightly different than then AMD one so it might not fit in the 7970m channels. Try the eBay store upgradeyourlaptop. They will have the x-bracket for your 7970m.

    Here: GPU Spreader x Bracket w Screws for MXM 3 0B AMD HD69X0M 79X0M 89X0M VGA Modules | eBay

The spreader brackets are specific to the card model, not the vendor or which laptop they came from. AMD 69xx/79xx/89xx spreader brackets are specific to that model of MXM GPU. Like the spreader bracket for a 5870m won't fit correctly on the 7970m cause the "square" on it is a different perimeter than what's allowed on the 7970m. That being said, you can try installing the 7970m without a heatsink. But it will heat up real quick-like. So if you were to want to test it first, you would just power on and boot to windows. But you would also need to remove the Nvidia drivers and install the AMD ones. And without a heatsink, your 7970m will heat up too quickly for you to do all that before you have to shut down. I would not recommend you run your 7970m without a heatsink, under ANY circumstance.

What Radji said, plus emphasis on, do not run a GPU without a heat sink if you are not absolutely sure what you're doing.

You will simply need to get the according X-bracket, you just need it.

The person you bought the card from isn't giving you any sort of return or guarantee that the GPU works? What happens if it doesn't work, they won't take it back?

Well you simply need the X-bracket. You can't decently test the card without it.
So you either buy it and use the card, or not buy it and can't use the card...
And if you can't use the card (yet), you likely won't be able to return it in a few weeks time when you do have the bracket, as they will probably say you should have reported it asap, and not after a few weeks.

Seeing the current high-ish reported failure rates of the 7970m cards people buy from different locations, i'd not take a gamble on this personally...

:eek2: :err: No. They don't know what the hell they're talking about. Contact the Alienware reps here in the forums. They can get you the right x-bracket. There's no such thing as a windows 7 or Windows 8 heatsink. Heatsinks are specific to the computer model only, like an M17x R2 heatsink is different than one for an M17x R3. Just when I though India phone support could be anymore stupider...

Yes, those are the correct ones for the 7970m on the R4.

The fan and HDMI issues shouldn't be present on an R4, but you're getting a Clevo version, so I'm not 100% sure your in the clear. Like 99% sure you are though.

The only Heatsink & Support plate we offer for 7970m are the ones you posted above.

    These are the part numbers:

    AMD 7970m Heatsink - 0MMPT
    AMD 7970m X-bracket - 3PVGK

It might be called a GPU spreader. But in any event, let the Alienware reps help you order it. Generic Dell phone support is about as useful as a three-legged donkey.
