Guys,
I keep getting disconnected from my lan... they <!> sign on the bottom right, if i plug out my Ethernet cable and back in it goes away.
with wireless is also happens. is going on?
i got windows 7 ultimate and a billion router. i know this could be a multitude of things but usually my internet was rock solid, it is only like this since i installed ultimate and changed my ip to a static one.
annoying...

Try going back to DHCP, and issue the command IPConfig/renew when it disco's. Just a starting point

i also could not mount a folder from my synology but its ok now.
still waiting for that dreaded <!> to reappear, my network was rock solid till now.
can someone tell me in a nut shell what i need to do to set a static ip? from both the computers side and the router side.?
i do the ipconfig and put in a new static ip that is close to the existing one, how does static ip work for when i am using a wired and wireless connection, do i need to set up a static for both?
sorry for the nob questions -

You only need a static address if you have access setup to your machine (e.g. running a web server). You can either set a reservation for the MAC address on the router and it will always issue that IP to your machine using DHCP, or just use one that is not in use and hope that it does not get issued to another machine. You should get an IP conflict message in this instance but maybe this is the cause?
Each connections will have it's own settings - ipconfig/all will show you everything you need to know - and a bunch more -
My samsung tv uses plex and sometimes it cant find the server (ie my laptop which is running plex), probably due to the ip address changed,, thats why i wanted a fixed one but it seems to have caused more harm than good. -

You should be able to configure a fixed reservation on the router then, I've done this so I can open up NAT for torrents (without using uPnP). Much better than frigging with the card settings. The MAC address should also be seen when connected at the router so you know it by matching up the IP. A lot of subtle differences between routers so no walkthrough I'm afraid.

i don't think i have my router set up properly, i got the billion 700n, tbh i have no idea on how to set up this properly., don't like network terminology and stuff.

My advice is to find someone local that knows about it and will help. You stand a very good chance of messing up all your access (even locking yourself out!) if you don't understand the implications of a setting.
Sorry I can't be more help, I'd have to see the router admin config screen to even know where to start on your need for a static assigned IP -
okie, so i set up a static ip now, and went into my config settings of the router log on scrren and set up a fixed host for the dhcp server.
will see how this goes., maybe that second part is where i was wrong. -

Even the terminology can be different between routers, even thought they all do the same job. You could probably do the same for the other devices, I had to for my iPhone to OTA sync -
aye, its mighty confusing at the best of times
my network is playing up.....
