I checked my laptop with these two pograms HWiNFO32 & Aida64 and it tell's me that i have the B2 chipset. Now i orderd this in April,24th 2011 and they shipped it to me in May, 10. Is this the wrong chipset? I have the M17-R3 laptop. Now do you guys think they send me the wrong B2 chipset because i buy one year warranty or because i orderd only one hard drive?

Install the A04 bios. If it still shows B2 they apparently are sending out boards that are still "defective" and Intel needs to be contacted about this issue now...
EDIT: You are on A04...
You are the 3rd or 4th person I have seen report this.
That blows man. -
okay so what are my options?? send it back or dell gonna send someone to come to my home to fix it??? any ideas?
-
they should come to your home to replace the mobo.. at least that's what they're doing for my cousin who's got an R3 with B2.

Im on B2 as well. Got it after Apirl

If B2 is the faulty chipset, which one is correct? Is it B3?

Wow thanks for bringing this to my attention. I also have B3 and i just received mine a couple weeks ago. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I can not get port 0 to run at 6gb/s. I know the 6gb/s slots were supposed to be free of the data corrupting issue...
How is everyone contacting dell to get their motherboard replaced? -
B3 = GOOD revision

My friend is also on B2.
More and more ppl are having this problem. -
I also have the B2 revision
I have proof in my screenshot below...
I have no desire for dell technicians to touch my laptop. I want to argue for a fresh replacement...do you guys think its possible?
Another reason I want to argue for a replacement is because I want to add the wireless HD and nVidia 3D option and just pay the difference.
Any tips/advice?Attached Files:

Hmm, this is really interesting. I think either there is a bug in A04(suppose to display the right revision for chipset) or Dell is out of their mind. We should bring this to their attention. -
I'm on the phone with them right now. This is unacceptable and could also explain my DVD drive issue when I received my machine. I don't want a brick within a year and nor should anyone.

Got off the phone. The technician acknowledged my concern about having a B2 stepping motherboard but said he can't do anything about it unless I experience an extreme slowdown in performance. After hearing this, I am most likely returning this laptop. As much as I love it, I don't want hell breaking loose, even if they promise to replace it further down the line. Who knows what else can go wrong with this motherboard?

Ok. I just got off the phone with them. They said it was possible that they have sent the faulty chips after relaunch if it was already in production.
Good news is they will replace it if there is any problem in the future even without warranty.
At this point, the only way to check is open up the computer and check the number on the back of the chip. If it says:
BD82HM67
SLJ4N
then you are good. I'm planning to open it when i have time.
