okay so i contacted dell in asking the price to upgrade to the gtx 580, and got the $1189.99 price slapped in my face that i should of known was going to come. but i know that i could easily pick up the gpu for $600-$700 range no problem and say screw dell and put it in myself since its not too hard to do. But do you think with the rumors of the r4 coming and it going to be using the nvidia 6xxm series do yu think it will be cheaper to get the 580m from dell or the secondary market if this is true?

component prices drops as the technology evolves. that's no mystery. longer you wait more you save. it really depends on what you want and what to expect. how much performance gain will you get? 5%? 20%?
If you can wait I would recommend to wait until R4 then probably you'll see some people selling R3's and eventually with new gpu's will drop even more.
But prices dropping because of a rumour? I doubt it in this case.

true that makes sense. but whats the odds people are going to take apart their r3's and sell the parts separately, kinda just want that one part for now, since everything else is easier to find than the mobile GPUs

What are you running currently? I would only upgrade (especially with the price of all Nividia GPUs) if your needs weren't being met.
