    hi!
i just updated my drivers to 314.07 whql and flashed the latest bios from dell A11 for my R4.
whenever i try to enable 3d vision, it opens the usual setup wizard, but after that, when i reach the test screen, the following dialog box shows up
    error1.jpg

continuing after this, there is a flicker on the screen with some distorted text overlying the normal text. And after clicking next, it again shows the dialog box.
    error2.jpg
and then it again starts from the beginning!
    What to do? Please help!

roll back your drivers and see if you have the same problem

Turn off MSI Afterburner (or any similar tool you might use, but my money is on MSI Afterburner :p).

And the answer to your next question, you're welcome. :)

thanks for your help, stopping msi afterburner helped!

now i dont get an error, but now there a big red overlay saying that i am running stereo in a non stereoscopic mode. I did CTRL+T to enable 3d, it gives an unusual flickering effect on the page to check "what image do you see when looking via only one eye" (no different images via right and left lens of 3d glasses, just flickering)
and it runs at 60fps(shouldn't it be 120?)

just saw resolution settings on nvidia control panel, there is no 120hz option! where did it go?

Check the display type under 'set up stereoscopic 3D' in the NV control panel. It should say 'Alienware 3d vision notebook', sometimes it defaults to 3d discover.

Also did you re-install the driver after stopping Afterburner? I've had problems if it was still loaded during a driver update.

no, it wouldnt let me change the display type until i enable 3d

nevertheless, the problem is fixed now, stoped msi after burner at boot and did a restart. BAM, the 120hz option was there.
    Everything is fine now!

    Thanks to everyone who helped!

Now tell us how the 3D is on the R4 together with the GTX 680m, as it's been luring at me for months to replace my R2, but yet no one was able to tell me how the experience is ^^

Its pretty frickin awesome, I don't use it that much for FPS games as it makes them more difficult, but i can run BF3 on Ultra settings in 3d @ 27-30fps which is pretty dang good, without 3d I run ultra around 50-60 fps

the best 3d I have seen is in vanilla world of warcraft believe it or not, runs at like 100+ fps and the colors and 3d are quite amazing.

I wish I used it more, I am getting into some more games as time goes on, but the 120hz screen is plain and simply put.. AWESOME

Some of the nvidia 3d demos are cool to show off to your friends as well

    Gotta agree with this :D

Even on my 675 I get decent frame rates for Max Payne 3 - soo pretty, and blows everyone away when they see it ;)

YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT!
    its pretty awesome
plus the 120hz screen is an added bonus for non 3d modes(it feels more smoother)

playing games with lots of action, crashes, blasts looks like live action (burnout paradise, crysis 2, BF3) LA Noire and Sleeping Dogs are a must try on 3D.
Of course, there must some compromises on graphic settings for 3d, for most games, reduce the settings to half or less than half for nearly the same frame rate

also the samples included are sure fire way to blow your friend's mind! (probably its the envy is what we pay for :D :p)

the 3d glasses for nvidia 3d vision 2 are pretty comfortable, with 3 nose clip sizes, pretty good battery life(haven't drained it yet, don't game on 3d that long :p) and ample brightness
though i am yet to see snap/clip on 3d glasses for people with spectacles(me)
i think LG has those for their 3d tvs(but those are passive 3d and polarized)

i chose the 3d screen because i have a sony tx9 cybershot which has 3d panaroma, looks pretty good when viewed on laptop

to sum it all - its worth an experience, if you have the budget

Agree about the non-3d games look much smoother on the 120hz screen

I disagree though about the glasses being comfortable, man they really hurt my head (maybe I have a big head or something) after about 30 minutes of wearing them, i've tried to stretch them out but no luck. But still totally wearable for at least a half hour before they start hurting

I used 3D a lot on my PS3 and my Sony Bravia. But I can't imagine 3D on a notebook (as in, I have no clue what to expect as it's a smaller screen).

I'm also one of the people loving 3D, I love seeing movies in 3D, and I love playing games in 3D. I just think it's awesome, and I don't care I look like a tard with those glasses on my face ^^

Must say the R4 with 3D is starting to get more and more tempting ^^

do they hurt on the sides of the head or your eyes? probably too tight, better take care of your eyes, stop using at slight discomfort. You might get used to it after some use.

well it is not as great as on a big screen ( a 40" screen anyday over a 17")
and with a blu ray, you can enjoy 3d movies!

I find the glasses hurt after a while - at the contact point above my ears. I don't have a particularly large head  but I also bend them open. Seems that the very small contact point is the problem, all the pressure in a very small area. :(

Hurts the side of my head not my eyes...

And the 3d is great because its 1080p resolution on a 17" screen so the resolution is very dense and tight and it looks amazing!

try using a sponge or a piece of cloth folded, may look weird but it might help

yeah it provides enough pixel density for optimum viewing distance, like approx 2-3 ft away from the screen
