i know this issue has been already gone over. i am hoping for any new information on this.
but, i was wondering if there is anyway one can remove the throttle for the 580m gtx when on battery mode. is there anyway you can actually play a game when on battery??
for instance, i can play crysis 2 when plugged in, but if I am on battery mode, I can't do anything.
Btw. i have a 120hz screen/3d

sorry there is nothing you can do. your battery simple can not provide enough power.
-
you can play games on battery but you have to drastically lower your graphics settings and put everything on max performance when "on battery" in power settings. yeah i know it sucks.
-
awwww man...how can ATI users do it?
-
Pretty sure they still suffer a performance drop.
-
i thought it was just their battery life

Nvidia apparently(i think) has it written into their vbios, to automatically downclock on battery. I "think." Forgot where I heard that from.
I just checked, my roommate's 6990 downclocks off batteries. Not as much, but he doesn't get 100+ fps on his older games. -
oh i c...thank you zoolian

It's not only a matter of GPU manufacturer but simply because your batteries aren't able to provide the same intensity(amps) as the PSU.

Yeah, its me again...I say this everytime this come up:
Why would you ever want to play games on battery power? Heck why would you even use the laptop without being plugged in, unless the plug happened to fall out while you were shifting the machine around on your lap.
Seriously...how long could you even hope to play crysis 2 on battery power? 10 minutes? Find a plug!! LOL. -
I have a m11x R1 model and it plays on full power even on battery...albeit for 30 minutes without reducing brightness. -

Yes, but that tiny GPU in the M11x along with all other components need as much power as its battery provides. Bigger laptops not only have larger screens but also powerful hardware that need more juice to run, as simple as that.

Just pointing out the differences by mentioning an 11in laptop in a 17in laptop thread/forum as an example. though I probably could have been more specific.

One of my college professors/friend was always complaining that he likes the size of netbooks but that they are the slowest crappiest computers ever (which is totally true).
So I told him to buy an m11x as it would still be tiny, but 10x the computer that any of those netbooks are. He now uses his m11x all the time.
That being said, Katalin is right. They are not m17x. They are not intended to game seriously. (let the flame war begin--lol)
What the real point of my sarcastic post was: the m17x is not a laptop. It is a desktop replacement. A desktop that you can pick up and carry to your buddies house without throwing out your back.
Running them on battery power for anything other then "the plug popped out" or "i need to check my email quick to see if I got my invite to the diablo 3 beta yet--dammit where the h*ll is it??" is just silly.
Sorry that was a king of hard to follow sentence.
