just when I thought I was going to have a good day! a "plastic" water pump in my car cracked and had a water leakage, the engine steamed horribly but thankfully still %100 fine! $600 is gone along with my dream of M18x! now the M17x is ordered!

sooooo, I wonder how many hours I can juice with the 9 cells battery! I mean I have a power saving plan and that is to turn off everything unnecessary including the WLAN with minimum brightness/IGP! nope, playing 2D games and 3D casuals! I've heard that with web surfing it could reach to 3.5 hours, but what if I turn off the WLAN? I hope I could reach the 6 hours!

    thanks :)

with WLAN on and max power conserv. and integ GPU = 4hrs max
without WLAN and above state....= 4.5hrs max.

you need six hours you look at a M11X/ M14X :p (although i have no idea how long would they survive as i don't trust Optimus, and feel the NV card is quietly sipping away power...hardware switch seems to be a sure shot)

I have to say Im quite happy with what I get with integrated GPU. As mentioned, with Wifi on, brightness on 70% and balanced power plan it now shows 3:13 left and 86%battery, but I think I ususally get more out of it, so something like 4 hours 15 on full battery.
If you switch to your primarly GPU, you get obviously much less. I have HD 6990m and get like 2 hours to 2 hours 30 maybe (on same settings). Obviously if you game its much less

if trying to max out battery life, besides putting the laptop in power save mode, using integrated graphics, and turning down screen brightness, don't forget to turn off alienFX - all those leds do use power too!

I know, still consumes around 24 watts when idle! this why I'm trying to make it 15w if possible!

    googling......
    ....
    .....

EDIT: according to my search the updates version works with sandy bridge cpu's, however you can't increase the multiplyer! can I DECREASE it and make it work at 800mhz?!

you could try undervolting. There's potentially a lot to be gained in undervolting since power is proportional to the square of voltage.

Not sure if the bios supports that without a hacked bios though (I havent received my m17 yet to know).

You can't decrease the Sandy Bridge multipliers per se in Throttlestop, but you can lock the CPU to 8x (~800Mhz) by disabling Intel Speedstep in the BIOS or by unchecking the EIST box in T-Stop.
