I bought a 2920XM, 8GB Hyperx 1866 Ram,and a Crucial M4 256 GB SSD aftermarket. I was gonna get an M18X and use my aftermarket upgrades in that, but after considering overheating issues with dual GPUS, the extra weight, and of course the price, I got a price from HIDevolution for an M17X r3 with the 2630cpu,and the only upgrades was the 6990M and the Killer Wireless N 1103. No sales tax, free shipping it came to $1879.I'm not a hardcore gamer but I like to do some benchmarking so what do you guys think of the decision to get the M17X instead of the M18X which on HIDevolution was $2579. Appreciate your thoughts.

If you're not a hardcore gamer, there's no reason for you to get the M18X.

Does it have the FHD screen?

If so get it and sell the XM to a M18x owner.

Why are you going through HIDevolution instead of dealing directly with Dell?

This is the million dollar question. If you are in the USA, I'd go directly to Dell. If you are active military or reserve, or have VA benefit you can go through AAFES, but better deals can be had through Dell if you wait for the right sale.

Get the 1080p screen and the 6990m. The extra CPU & memory won't make much of a difference. An SSD is always a good thing (if it works correctly).

When you say go directly through Dell do you mean go to their website and order online? They also charge sales tax which is 7% in N.J.

The 2920xm can not be manipulated in the M17x R3 in any way like the old 9*0XM CPUs could be in the M15x. Sell me the 2920, get some more money to fund your M17x :D
