when i overclocked my radeon 6870 using saphire trixx it caused lines to go across the top of my screen. what is causing the lines/ could it be a driver issue since i have the drivers that came on the laptop?

Sounds like your overclock is too high.

That's not a very large oc. Have you removed or repasted the card? If it isn't seated right it can cause lines like you describe.

i haven't touched the card. i also forgot to mention that it only happens on the desktop or in game menus. seems okay when actually playing in game. only tested on need for speed hot pursuit though.

    What temperatures are you reading?
It also might be the voltage that is too low, causing the card not to function properly on those clocks.

Set your card back to factory settings and update your drivers. Are the lines gone, then?

If not, then it seems like your card is "physically" damaged.

so by that you mean do a system restore on the whole system back to factory?

i also see that when i overclock back to stock it still shows unless i reboot or switch back to the intel gpu. also it seems like when i switch gpu it won't switch back to radeon gpu unless i reboot. is it supposed to be a prolonged period of time before i can switch back or is there a problem there.

I really think you should repaste and reseat your card. I had similar issue when I went from gtx560m to a 6990m.

    k. don't think it will help to try to get dell involved. probably voids the warranty by overclocking anyway.

Edit: would it hurt if i unscrewed the gpu to look at the pasting job and putting it back?
