first sorry for my bad english ....
    i´ve just got an Alienware m17x r1
    it has an p8600 -.-
i was hoping to get a little more power out of it ...
i Oc it in Bios to FSB 1200
that´s the MAXIMUM i can get from the CPU (2.7GHZ)
I think I have to raise the voltage is that possible? and when yes how ?

    and my next question
im planning to buy a new card and i read that most of the users use the 5870... (but the flashed once?)
is it possible to stay at geforce or do i to take the ati to get the maximum power out of my Alien
(physicaly the 560 should work? or am i wrong?)
I´ve got the 240Watt AC adapter so normaly it should be able to handle it.
if I only can get the ATI ones how can i flash it?

I hope you guys can help me

5870 is the best card people have working stable, go with that. I just went to single 5870 with QX9300 after having SLI 260m and p8600 and the upgrade is huge. Today my second 5870 comes in for crossfire, but the upgrade has already been incredible. Running everything I've thrown at it on high/extreme. OC'd to 2.93 ghz completely stable, havent even bothered to try to go farther on the QX9300.

P8600 is a $25 cpu now, I would start looking at an upgrade.

What cards do you have in it now? 260M? I think the R1 will do 285M SLI. 5870M CF are guaranteed to work.

I raised the voltage to 1.275 and oc the P 8600 to 3 GHz ... finally....
at the moment i have a GTX 260m...
what is a good price for the 5870m?
i think i´ll buy one next time then...
and what exactly do i have to do?
cause i read something about flashing the card?
i know that i have to delete my old nvidia drivers
    and then replace the card
but do i have to do somethign else?
thx for the answers so far...

what does it mean with bios flashed?
does that means the r2 was flashed or do i have to flash my r1?
and how do i update the bios?
and i just found an 5870m at ebay...
but it is the slave card
is there a difference between the slave card and the master card?

Graphics card even with the core 2 gen CPU, the gfx card is always the primary consideration for gaming.

No, there is no difference between Master and Slave card. Some manufacturers give them some extra number or letter, so it's easy to identify which is which.

I think you would by far benefit most from a 5870 upgrade, it's the biggest bang for buck for playing games. likely you will find out this upgrade works enough for you and you might be able to hold out on a CPU upgrade. If not, then you can always decide to do that also.

what do you think about this offer?

Dell Alienware M17x R2 AMD ATI Radeon HD 5870M Laptop Video Card RV546 RT01J | eBay

when i get two from this seller i just have to pay 330€ + one heatsink + one fan + one crossfire cable...

but 300+ is a bit to hard for me at the moment

I could just buy one of them for 150€ and I could use the heatpipe from my gtx 260m

and i found this one too

    ATi 4870 Mobility Crossfire MXM 3.0 Type B + heatsinks & fans - M17x Clevo Sager | eBay

for 238€ i could replace it instantly but i cannot upgrade it later ...
do you guys think it is worth to buy them ?
