long story short, my NVidia 880m keeps disappearing from device manager and from the bios after hearing a single loud beep.
have reseated the graphics card many times and still having same issue. But then when I was running a hardware test I noticed I was getting a pci express failure.
After ringing dell and informing them of the issue dell sent a engineer out to exchange both my motherboard and graphics card, once the engineer rebuilt my laptop we ran the test again and the error went, but just to be on the safe side as the engineer was packing his stuff away we ran the test again to make double sure it was fixed and the pci express failure returned !
engineer said sometimes a driver reinstall would be required and suggested a format and to contact dell again if the problem persisted.
dell are sending out another engineer again to replace the motherboard and graphics card again "one more time" (there words)
can anyone else shed some light on this error/failure ?
can it be caused by something else ?
I'm using the latest bios version A14
thank you

just a update:
Dell engineer arrived today and put another new motherboard and graphics card in and the system failed to boot.
new motherboard was DOA so the engineer put my old board back in with the new graphics card and the system booted and ran some tests all of which passed !
engineer ran a further 3 tests on the graphics card and they also passed without the pci express failure showing.
I signed off on the job as everything was working again perfectly and the engineer left. I shut down my laptop and moved it to where it belonged and switched my laptop back on as I have plenty of uni work to get on with and before I started it I decide purely for peace of mind to rerun the test again and its bloody failing...
"pci express failure device removed" and my NVidia graphics card disappears from the device manager and from the bios.
reseating doesn't help and I'm at my wits end with this now.
any advice ? -
Another update:
Dell have arranged for another engineer visit, again they are swapping out the motherboard and graphics card but also the base.
original failure was pci express failure, After last engineer I now also have:
motherboard failure,
alienfx lights failed only half change colour,
screen flashes black,
twisted graphics heatsink (dumbass engineer couldn't be bothered removing heatsink and pulled / twisted it and the graphics card to get them out)
and I still have the pci express failure ! -
Dell have offered me a system exchange, is it worth it ?

You are getting a far better system performance wise but your losing your upgradability as that model is soldered and you can't change parts. If your fine with that then your geting a significant upgrade, if your not ok with that then you might want to push for a refund and go with a different brand. Is the 17 in your sig with the 32bg of ram the one that failed? Did you add the ram? They are only offering you 8gb but all your systems have more then that. The 980m is a large step up over your 880m and the CPU is a little faster as well so.....do you like the new mdoels? It is really the only option you have unless they want to find you a refurb if that is even an option. Maybe you can use it to push for an 18? I doubt it but I have seen them do it for others albeit very VERY rarely.
