so the power cord from my R3 is takin a beaing, the insulation is starting to rip right around the adapter that plugs into the back of the laptop. also the actual adapter itself is loose inside the socket on the laptop itself. i do alot of travelling with this beast so its understandable.

just wondering if anyone knows where i could get an affordable power supply.

and on a side note, been thinkin i need to upgrade my HD to a solid state or hybrid(still on dell 320gb), upgrade my ram (still on original 4gb, want at minimum 8gb), and eventually upgrade my 6870m. which should i prioritize first? i really want a new vid card, but they're so damn expensive.

If you're still under warranty, it is probably covered. Even if not, they might cover it. I know I had a battery issue with another brand of computer and the computer was out of warranty. They gave me a new battery free of charge. The same thing happened with the adapter (the wiring actually burned from the inside out)...they gave me a new one free of charge.

The bigger worry (for me, at least) would be the looseness of the socket where you plug the adapter into the computer. You should get that looked at before the system stops charging (had a computer stop charging because of that issue...cost more to get it fixed [out of warranty] than the whole system's worth).

You should contact Dell and ask, even if it is out of warranty.

If I were you, I'd go for the SSD for best bang for buck. RAM is cheap too. The video card, I would wait for the new models (Nvidia 600 series or AMD 7000 series) to come out before upgrading.

Unless it is physically damaged, Dell should cover it. This applies to loose DC jacks as well.

it is slightly physically damaged, the insulation is ripping from over usage right where the blue LED plug end is.

i wanna wait for the new GPU's but i doubt i'd be able to afford them. i wanna upgrade to a 6990m at the very least, but i guess i should still wait b/c when the new ones come out the price will likely drop on the 6990m's eh?

a SSD is in my future. especially since the m4's are coming down in price now. thinking a 128gb m4 would do just sweet.

now the question is, for my storage drive, should i go hybrid? or more rpms? i want at least 750gb of storage. a 10k rpm hard-drive is too expensive, so im limited to a standard 7200 rpm or a hybrid 750 like a momentus XT. this would be where i store most of my larger games (smaller/more important ones on the SSD) and files, and anything extra would go to an external.

also, should i upgrade all of my ram to say 2 sticks of 4gb, or should i just add-on to the supplied 4gb? i know its better to have 2 sticks vs 4 for the memory controller, but how worth it is it? or should i consider just adding in another 2 sticks of 4 for a total of 12 gb of ram?

also considering upping to a 2760QM if i can find one for a decent price.
