 when we received the laptop,it contained a system running Vista 64 bit and we had

received with it a card of upgrade to the new operating system Windows 7 64bit..

we didn't upgrade but we did format the machine while maintaining the recovery space

which came from the factory and instal the system on Disk C.

while we definate the computer's parts in Windows 7 64bit .we face some problems

which maybe the problems of the definitions which related to the parts itself...

    those problems are:

When developing a digital disk inside the driver; it's not reading it as required,

and it's taking a time to read it more than two minutes , or i have to open My

Computer icon and keep it open until the copmuter be able to download the contents

of the page. and this problem updated with any disk, regadless of its content.

And the other problem which i face is what's called "Cisco". when i installed any

program it doesn't appear on the list of add and remove programs+ the disappearance of

the AverMedia MCE , so when there's anything wrong with the machine, it's become

so hard to control it. and it takes a time to control the machine again .
And i think that these two programes have an effect on reading the disk.
For clarification in case of formatting the machine and keep it the way it's shipped

the problems disappear , but of course you know that windows 7 is better than Vista

and i like to use windows 7 on my Alienware m17x..

and there is another thing , if you provide me with a definition for the webCam

in windows 7 cause the system doesn't identify the webCam as required...and that

inforce me to use the definition from windows Vista and that doesn't work probably.

Even i need Alienware AlienRespawn program for windows 7 to help me.

All what i have mentioned about my problems have enforced me to do format and

a complete system recovery to my computer to its configuration as shipped, and i do that a several times per day .

please could you help me in these problems to overcome them and make windows7 works perfectly on my computer..
plz help me in finding the solution to my problem .... thnx

    Hi Syria

If I have read your post correctly you have "upgraded" from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 as opposed to doing a clean install. Many times the upgrades are problematic and a clean install is preferred. When you upgade an operating system many old drivers get stuck in the registry and can play havoc with a new operating system. A clean install allows you start from scratch and build your drivers and software back up from a clean slate. On the other hand an upgrade can be patchy and leave all sorts of driver related issues. I would recommend backing up your data and doing a clean install. You will want to update the drivers from Dells site. It is very important that you print off a list that explains the order in which drivers must be updated. I had a similar problem to what you are describing when I updated from XP to Vista. The sound card didn't work properly the Dvd, et. I spent day on the phone with Dell and Windows and finally in the end I had to reinstall the operating system from scratch. Everything worked perfectly from than on. The dell site allows you to download all the drivers you need at the same time. Unfortunately you must know which hardware versions they installed in your system. It becomes very problematic when Dell uses 2 or 3 vendors and lists all the drivers. You must decide which are the correct drivers for that hardware device.

Here is a list of the order of install:

Dell - Windows driver install order for desktops and laptops

    Dear FalconMachV :
first of all thanx so much for helping me in my problem.
i'm gonna explain to u what's going on with me:
Well, i do format my laptop and i do a clean install for windows7, without upgrading but when i finish the formating i face aproblem which is when i put a CD in the driver it take a several minutes to read it and sometimes i have to open My Computer Icon to make my laptop recognize the CD content and start reading it and i see the green downloading line in the top, when it becomes all green the CD works... this is my first problem.
My second one is with these two programs :
    1-AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress DVB-T
    2-AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress ATSC.
When i install any of them it appears in Programs and Features List, and when i install the second one both of these programs disappear from Programs and Features List. Knowing that i checked the latest issues of the drivers in Dell's website for windows7 and i installed them all. But that doesn't help me in my problems. :(
Being overseas it's not easy to contact Dell support Center by phone .
i hope i can get some help i anybody know what i'm suppose to do...
    thanx in advance.

I'm hardly surprised the first installation disappears when you install the second one. You should only need **1** what you are doing by installing the 2nd (i'm presuming) is uninstalling the first.
As for your CD drive issue it's perfectly normal to have to wait until the green bar fills until you can look at the contents. It's like loading a web page and waiting for the loading bar to complete before seeing everything. If you feel this is taking a long time then you may have a faulty drive and will have to get Dell to replace it.

I sympathize with you because I understand what it is like to be on the phone will Dell for hours. Sometimes if a driver becomes corrupted it doesn't matter how many times you resinstall, it simply won't work.

Drivers need to be unistalled before adding new ones. Most people have multiple applications all jockeying for control of DVD. Media player, nero, roxio, et and this can cause instability.

If you do a clean install of everything you must be methotical about what order you resintall drivers. Dell has instructions on the web as to what order to reinstall everything.

    Hey simonmpoulton :
thanx for helping me in my problem, well, it's taking time more than it's required to read any CD. for example the CDs which its size just 150mbp it takes more than 3 minutes to let me see its content .... I think there is a problem in my driver :(
