I am trying to get the AMD 11.9 drivers installed, but for some reason each time while it says "Installing Graphics Driver" the screen goes blank, theres a very quick flash of white, then I get a BSOD from an ati driver and it doesn't install the drivers properly.

    Thanks alot for your help!

    Hi Idie,

Having just received my M17 I had the same problem. In the end I had to turn down the UAC (User Access Control) to get the drivers to install. Obviously turn the control back up when you've finnished.

    cheers,

    Jamie

well... for me, it was more or less the AMD_BLACKCOMBXT_A00_R291070 driver that worked WITHOUT any BSODS or random restarts

    i simply expressed uninstalled
rebooted and installled this driver version
    then rebooted
    and installed the 11.9 dd ccc ( http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/11-9_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe )
then reboot and finally the 11.9 seems to be working....switching and other media keys work as usual

Here's a 3rd method...disable your UAC permanently in windows. Then try the install again. You can reenable it after the driver installs. Also disable any software virus scanners etc that may be preventing a process from executing

    Download this driver installer first:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util.exe

    then:
    Go into control panel

    uninstall "Display Driver"
When the computer reboots, in VGA mode, execute the file you downloaded previously
    that's it.

Try that because that works for me everytime

ok, a 4th method...disregard if you are already using the dell drivers.

If not...reinstall the stock dell drivers...then install over them with the 11.9's

Thats what I always did when I had my R3 with the 6970m in it, but when AMD released 11.8, I started getting the BSOD, and I used 11.7 drivers since they worked perfect, but now I got a replacement with the 6990m and forgot to save the 11.7 ones and I can't find them anywhere :(

I would also be happy if you could help me find the 11.7 drivers. :D

another thing that you might try is to run driver sweeper (or similar utility) after you uninstall your current display driver. Something is "stuck"...the plumbing needs to be cleared

When I click on their download link, it redirects me to the AMD website with the 11.9 drivers.

Also, if you want to still try to get the 11.9 drivers to install, I took a picture of what the BSOD said while I was installing the 11.9 drivers, if there's a possible fix to what's causing it.

Yeah, use Revalator's link above for 11.7's...but this doesn't solve your issue

what happens when you restart? Do you get another bsod? Some people say after a restart, it installs the second time

Here is a thread where there must be about 5 different methods that people used to install the 11.9's. Maybe one of those will work for you

I tried all the methods that I saw in that thread, and none of them let me use the drivers, exept for The Revelator's method (Post 8) for ONE boot then it goes back to the low resolution screen with device manager saying the drivers "do not have a valid signature". It would be very annoying to have to press F8 and choose disable driver signature enforcement every time I want to start up my m17x :(

Could it be something in the Dell Windows 7 installation that causes this? I see that prank1 (post 13) says he went from a Clean install to the drivers with no BSOD, so I guess I can try that and see if it helps :)
