    so my question is, Im returning the 460m for the 6970m.... and I know when you upgrade from 460m to 6990m, its 300 dollars extra, and is it really a bad deal to to pay 389 for returning 460m and getting a 6990..... I know I am overpaying maybe by like 100-200 and I don't think thats bad, or am I overpaying by alot more? I checked 460m and usually market values for those could be around 250-300 dollars. and 6970m from dell was about 550 dollars after tax.

    they lowered the price to 389 because I said I would like to turn in the 460m.

    If you are happy with your laptop, why don't you just sell your 460m card here or on eBay, and then apply the money to a new 6970m card?

    Then you can keep your laptop and not have the hassle of returning. I don't know which is cheaper but that is an option.

    no no.... I am not returning my laptop.. I am taking the 460m out manually returning it to dell. and getting a 6970m for 389 dollars...

    they are sending the card to me, and when it arrives I can install it and when Im done with that.. I can return the 460m.

    Wow, they are letting you send in the card, and then get the new one? Pretty cool, I say go for it. I'd try to get the 6990 though.

    ya but they won't be able to give me the price....
    and Im sure its going to be ridciulously high, knowing 6970=389.....

    6990 = probably 500+ easily...

    anyways The dell guy told me I can install it myself, even in usual manual it tells you how to do it, and I believe my warranty will still be valid. I didn't ask him, but im pretty confident that it is because he said I will be able to do it easily on my own.

    The video card along with many other components are considered user serviceable parts (like RAM, HDDs etc.), unlike screen assembly, motherboard etc. when a tech should come and install them. So yes they should be ok with you doing it.
    The price might seem high but keep in mind that the GPU will be covered by the warranty since you buy it from Dell ;) so if that matters to you I'd say do it.
