question about the R1

So i have a m17x r1 ( at least im pretty sure it was the R1 it was the one with the q9000 processor) after going back and forth will dell sending it to depot I found out they stripped my screws for the moniter and they send me a m17x R2 as a replacement .. part of that deal was that they were to add the 5870 cross fire cards... the laptop came the card didnt.. so i purchased the 2ndary 5870 and fan on ebay so i just got a call and there going to send me the card and fan anyway.. so my question is will the 5870 work in the R1? or am i better off selling it on ebay? I had bought the 280m sli with the intent on running it on the R1 But blew out my primary card so i'm thinking i can use the 5870 and buy another primary card or buy a new 280m primary card and replace the damaged unit...

 

The 5870m won't work in the m17x R1 for now or it may never work,it's not supported by the system BIOS.

Your information is a little bit confusing,what is your current machine,the R2 ?
How did you damage one of your 280ms?

 

i actually have both the r1 and the r2 now my r2 came with one 5870 i went and bought the other on ebay. then they called me this am and said they were going to send me the 5870 card off so now i;ll have an extra card. the r1 had the 260m i had orderd the 260m sli card with the intent on running two 260m sli's but the dummy i bought it from on ebay sent me a 280m sli instead ( theres no way of telling the cards without having them installed ) so after i installed the 280 and ran the crossfire the 260m primary card never worked again... ( even solo) so i was just going to buy a 280m primary card and call it a day.. just havnt found one reasonable yet .. what i may end up doing is selling the 5870sli and buying the 280 primary and pocketing the difference.
