okay so ive had my AW m17x r3 for close to a year now, and its been running decent even with its low end hardware. I am looking to upgrade it as something fun to do and to play games down the road.(pretty much im going to overhaul the entire system) but ive heard that Ivy Bridge is backwards compatible, but idk if is going to be worth waiting for the extreme ivy bridges to get cheaper in a few years or just stick buying a i7 2960xm also i have the same issue with the gpu, since 580ms are going down like crazy is it worth waiting for the GTX 680m (if one is ever made) or just go with a 580m/675m. thanks in advance

(also this is only if i am able to put ivy bridge in my r3, i am assuming once dell releases the drivers for the r4 that we will be able to put ivy bridge on our r3s)

i wouldn't buy a 580m now...or if you want one that bad, there will be a bunch on sale once the current owners move over to 7970m's

The 2960 is all you need. In fact, i'd probably go with a 2920 as they are the same chip but cheaper. The 2920's will OC to the same limits

Forget Ivy unless you plan on getting a new mobo. It requires a h77 chipset. You have the h67 chipset in the R3.
