Seems to be. I just got my M17X R4 and it seems that you need to do that in order to get it off of the integrated chipset graphics thats built into the motherboard.

mine swaps automatically, the switchable graphics program asks me if i want it on intergrated or dedicated.

I have to switch too. I noticed it after high end games kept crashing and freezing. Once I switch, everything works just fine. Crazy, but not a big deal.

Most people have been blaming this on the immature drivers at this point. Hopefully one day the auto-switching will function perfectly. But pressing 2 keys and restarting is horrible i suppose lol.

Its just odd that we are taking a step back....the 6970 switched nicely.

and as far as letting ATI auto switch, screw that...i dont mind using the hot key, its just the reboot that is new and sucks

You'll find the performance of the 7970M will be greatly decreased on many games if you use it like that. You have to switch off the integrated graphics completely if you want the full performance.
