Hi guys,
Im sorry if Im multi-threading by posting this, but I tried to google the answer and came up short.
To be brief, I ordered laptop m17x-r3 in dell outlet:
Intel Core i7-2720QM processor (2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz)
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M
Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO
17.3 inch Wide FHD (1920 x 1080 60Hz) WLED Display
9 Cell Battery
and received it today, it runs great but I checked the specs and it has hd 6970m instead of hd 6990m which is really a big letdown considering that theyre 20-30% different and I wouldnt have ordered this otherwise.
Any ideas on what should I do, who to call and what to demand just briefly? Thanks for any help!!
also in the package I didnt receive any paper documentation (ie: receipt or so)

Hmm... Did you verify with GPU-Z (v. 0.5.4 -- DO NOT USE THE NEWER VERSION [0.5.5] -- it reads shader count incorrectly!) that you have 1120 unified shaders?? If you have 1120 shaders, then you have the 6990M.
-
no I just checked the system specs. and on two different ones it clearly says hd 6970m. Ill check ones more when I get back to my room, but suppose that they really did send me hd 6990m instead, what should I do?
-
All current software will detect the 6990M as 6970M, hence the reason to use GPU-Z to verify the shader count, which is the only way you can do it (to my knowledge).
-
I see, I didnt know that! I used the whatever thing is build into windows. Ill try it and report back, thanks for your help!

No problem. Glad I could help

You could also run 3DMark11 and/or Vantage and post your scores and we'll be able to tell you with a high degree of certainty what GPU you have.

Check the default clocks as well: 680/900 vs. 715/900.
-
checking clocks is the easiest way tbh as some programs read the shaders wrong :/

Yeah, this is probably the best way. If GPUZ says 715 for your default core clock, you have a 6990. -
thank you all for your answers! I checked and from what I can see in GPU-Z it should be hd6990m, I attached a screen shot so if you could just confirm that I would be very happy. (what buggs me is the fact that even Catalyst reads it as 6970m - so I hope its not overclocked 6970m
)
as for the papers, is it a custom for dell to not send an invoice or any paper documentation? I mean obviously I didnt receive the usual accessories like the mouse pad, the simple bag and maybe some other things but the invoice bothers me a little.Attached Files:

thats a 6990, you can tell as it has the extra shaders as well and an OC wont do that.
-
definitely a 6990m

Regarding documentation, there is a packing slip attached to the outside of the shipping box in a plastic envelope or slip. You can also do to Dell Support and request a detailed invoice. Check Invoice & Documents.

thanks again for your answers! if it wasnt for you I would have to spend another pleasant 3 hours on dell support talking to the indian guys
.
I ran 3DMARK 11 and even though the first run crushed the laptop after I updated drivers it went smoothly and I got P3450 3DMarks on 1280x720 performance seettings which should be the hd6990m.
Just a last question, should I update all drivers? I went to dell online to get new drivers and saw some fore bios, cpu and things like that, so should I go ahead and try to update them?
there was no such thing attached to the box nor inside, however Ill ask the receptionist who received the package for me if there wasnt something. Otherwise Ill contact dell support, but probably through email
received different specs laptop
