    second hard drive caddy for r3

    I went with the std 320 GB 7200rpm hdd for my R3, knowing that I would then get a Raid 0 array of SSDs or a 1 SSD+Momentus XT combo on my own. My question is how easy it is to order the second hard drive caddy? Do I just call Dell and order one?

    I was told by my salesrep that the second caddy etc. comes with it, but a third would have to be orderred if needed. I am still wondering what that third is. I had him verify that 2 seperate times before I ordered it. I am not not banking on it, but I am hopeful.

    man, those sales rep are not on top of their game. Mine told me that the R3 comes with just one caddy. Go figure who is the brighter bulb btw my sales rep and urs :p

    Not sure there is space for a third caddy tho

    That's okay. When I went to order a caddy, my rep told me the only way to get one was through a hard drive kit - meaning there was no way to get a caddy without an attached drive. And what with the price mark up...heh.

    Some reps will tell you that just to get a sale, don't forget that these guys work off of comission. Talk to the right rep and they'll send you the caddy for free in the event you don't get one lol.

    Same thing happened with the early R1s and after a while it was corrected.
    No need to worry about having to buy a second HDD from them,to have the caddy.
    Just call,in the extreme case there won't be one inside and you should have it,would be outrageous if they will pull the same lame trick again,most of cheaper notebook manufacturers include it for free,why shouldn't they do it? Because ordinary Joe will fall for that and buy a second overpriced HDD from them?
    And as for space for a third I think it's possible since the R3 doesn't have a second MXM video card,but probably they didn't do it.

    I still dont understand why people believe the system is not going to have the caddy. lol

    As Katalin mentioned, the R2 had issues however they were corrected - Brian (AW Engineering) looked into the R2's shipping without the 2nd HDD Caddy and called attention to it. The R2's shipping today and for some time now, are shipping with the 2nd drive caddy and interposer.

    I'm sure this will be the case with the R3. There is no reason to suspect otherwise.
