my question is two hard drives are suppose to fit into the laptop is what i thought, but when i asked the sales rep at dell they said no. so i only have 1 SSD drive so im wondering if this is true or not, cuz i really thought there was an extra bay? but im not sure.

In the m17x, if you remove the battery and then the bottom plate, you should see 2 drive bays, HDD 0 will have your SSD, HDD 1 should be empty unless you ordered a second drive. HDD 1 should have a HD caddy and what is called an interposer inside with the screws in a soft foam insert. That is all you need to install your own second HD.

Check out the first video on this page of the m17x wiki. Start around 0:40-45.

wait, so you don't need a $40 bracket from Dell!?!? i saw there was the "interposer" when the tech guy replaced my MB. at least i think thats what that was.

Depends. I don't know how it is everywhere but I've heard in some countries the interposer and caddy may not be included. AFAIK, however, the caddy/interposer/etc is usually sitting right in the slot it's supposed to be. Mine was.

We had a thread long time ago about this when we ordered our R1s,is true that in the beginning the caddy, screws and interposer weren't included with all machines, but after a while this issue got fixed so I think you'll be fine.Don't listen to Dell reps most of the times they don't know on what planet they live on.

They usually wont sell an SSD and HDD together. Never seen a good answer why.

may be coz the dell higher ups know that their sales reps cant handle the pressure and might get confused ;-)

Sorry to hear that Ralo...I was one of the early R2 adopters and mine did not include the bracket and interposer. I simply called and told them that it should have come with one and they shipped it out to me overnight for free.

I agree with everyone though, the reps never seem to know what they are talking about so always worth escalating if you aren't getting the right answers.
