    Hi,
I recently tried plugging my M17x on my TV through the HDMI output to watch a movie and whenever sounds came from my PC (like chat programs and stuff like that) it came through my TV's speakers, i was wondering if there was a way to set it up so the sound from the monitor displayed on the TV would come from the TV, and the sound from the Laptop screen would come out through the laptop speakers?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Some programs like skype allows you to choose which audio device outputs the sound. In this case you want your media player to output audio from the HDMI out, and everything else thru the normal speakers. You can't separate it by display like you want, only thru the programs. Windows itself doesn't allow you to define which audio device to use with specific programs so it's up to the software you use, for example your media player.

I've wondered about this before, it seems like a huge oversight and microsoft's part for HDMI and other audio sources. The Dispay screen should have little speakers icons underneath it which you match up with the right display..... hmmnnn maybe windows 8 or SP1

While looking for an application that could send audio to simultaneously to multiple devices, I came across Indie Volume - which lets you specify different audio sources on a per program basis.

While it's not exactly the solution you're looking for, you could specify your laptop speakers as the only device to play system sounds, Windows Media Player via HDMI for movies etc.

(For reference, Virtual Audio Cable lets you do the opposite - allowing you to send audio to multiple devices simultaneously but I could never get it to work perfectly)
