good day.
If someone in the know tell me. How to remove the artifacts in Safe Mode, cross faer.
When one video card works fine.

So, with one card the computer runs fine without any artifacts, but once you turn on crossfire the artifacts appear? That sounds like your second GPU is dieing, really you can either just remove the second card, replace it, or try and fix it with the oven trick.
If you do the oven trick, it is really just a hit or miss if it will work, but your card is already dieing so you pretty much have nothing to lose. I have done this with a desktop GPU and it worked for me:

Try to install the second GPU in the primary slot (single card) and see if you still get the artifacts. If you don't it's possible that your CrossFire cable could be faulty.

I warmed up the video card as shown on youtube. That helped a little. Maybe I'll just hold it there for 5 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees. What do you say.
just did two tests. First 3D GL3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfvevb8q2nk&feature=youtu.be. second benchmark Opengl 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffdGqYde6fc&feature=youtu.be
And as strange that the memory frequency jumped to 3000mhz shows HWINFO
also to try to go to the Metro 2033. But the laptop freezes when loading and so each time. But the artifacts are gone. -
I've also made and tested vBios for 4870M with unlocked Overdrive, currently modifying it with lower 2D voltages and clock speeds
If any1 is still using this old sucker and is interested in boosting performance and battery life, i can share it wen i'm done -
@iFanta: Does any other game also freeze your laptop, or only Metro 2033?
Good to hear the artifacts are gone -
I picked up an M17xR2 recently. I had 13.9 working on the 5870s. I did a complete reformat of Windows 7 64. Now the machine will load the Dell drivers just fine, but it won't install the current 13.12 drivers or update CCC. I tried the reboot in safe mode, drive sweeper, reinstall methods to no avail. I flashed the cards to the current vBios. I tried to install 13.12 again, but it says the machine is up to date with the old 2010 drivers. How badly did I mess this up
- or - what do I need to do to get it working like it was last week? I greatly appreciate the help!

Did you install the mobility version? Catalyst Software Suite will not work.
You have to download like Nospheratu explains here
Also copy out possible error report in the end of install if you did mobility to paste it in here. -
Thanks for the speedy reply! I'll give these a shot when I get home from work. Do you think I should start with a fresh install by uninstalling down to the standard VGA drivers and running Drive Sweeper an CCleaner again before giving this a shot?
-
I use driver fusion, normally it should be good enough uninstalling normally, but if that dont work it doesnt hurt going heavy on the cleaning.
And remember, its the mobility driver, not someting. You could as well install the beta version.(13.11)
Its less hassle to download and install, and perhaps even just as good, especially for "old" cards like yours.
There have been users reverting to the beta from the 13.12. -
Well I got Referrer Control set up and downloaded from ATI. Here is the log file from RC (in case I messed that up):
Requested: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.11_betav9.5.exe
With Referer: Referer
Matched Filter: Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD
Sent Referer: http://ww2.ati.com
Chrome proceeded to download the file. I allowed the file to extract to the AMD folder, but did not allow it to install as suggested in other threads. I opened Device Manager and went to Update Drivers on the card. The card auto-installed as a VGA Adapter when I rebooted the machine from removing the Dell branded drivers. I chose to grab the driver manually by going to the WB6A_INF folder and choosing C7165578.inf . The only Mobility option in the list was titled "ATI Mobility HD 5000 Series". The Windows compatibility warning pops up. I get the error, "Windows found driver software for you device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows."
Installing through the .exe only install the Catalyst Install Manager and the HDMI driver. The log file for that is attached.
As you can assume - I'm confused. Again thank you for the help! -
Since youve tried the beta, you should have a file that downloaded is called amd_catalyst_13.11_mobility_betav9.5 found here for win7/8 & 64 and downloaded no RC needed.
The RC thingy will have a filename 13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql in your downloads, and its the one u need RC to receive while pressing the link provided by Nospheratu.
I always install it directly from the file no mombo jombo, full install.
Could be different for the 5000 series, i guess users of the 5000 can tell you this.
Errormessage worth something would be after a full install.
You sure you have 64bit win7? Since it complains about win version? -
OK - This is going to be hard to believe. I unplugged the machine and let it sit for a day. On a whim, I tried installing CCC 11.2. For some odd reason - IT WORKED! So for giggles I tried installing the 13 beta. That worked too. The most current WHQL release won't work, but that is ok! I can live with the beta.
Trome, thank you for all the help! I greatly appreciate it! Check your PM's for a little thank you code! (After the auto-promoter updates my profile for PM's lol) -
You can always install drivers from Device manager...
Click update driver and search manually on my computer.....point the windows to Driver folder
default is "C:\AMD\Support\13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF"
And let windows install latest driver.... afterwards AMD installer should work too -
should i buy this m17x r2
