i just did a factory install recovery on my r3, got all the drivers and have it working as it should be again but the start up and shut down times are significantly longer than they were before the recovery. I have looked at all of the startup items and they all seem to be the only ones needed for operations. did a defrag, ccleaned it, disk cleaned up to make sure everything was cleaned up. any tips on what to check out for decreased times on both?
a bit more background:
i shouldnt have messed with the recovery and just dealt with the 2% ram increase in usage. it is still at the same place it was before the recovery and now it starts up and shuts down a bit slower it seems. im disappointed that my feverish attempt at getting it to run like it used to has failed. it runs no better now than it did when i started.![]()
i wanna send it back and get a new one again now that i have my in house warranty all set up in my name just so i can have one that is factory again...cant do it though, only have the in house repair after remote diagnosis though
better than nothing though and might be in order one day if something happens to it.
this thing is still the sickest machine ever, even after getting put through the ringer at support for not having my warranty stuff situated. that was my own fault though, bought it on ebay as a refurb from alienware. it had the buyers name and such on it so i had to get the info from them to change it over. i just dont have the recovery partition now, which didnt do me any good anyway.

do you have anything plugged into the usb ports during boot?
-
Type msconfig in the search and stop all programs that are not necessary. I only have 7 start up items that are checked on my m14x and start up takes under 50 seconds.

theres nothing in the usb ports, do you have a list of what is required for startup? i dont want to turn some off since i am not sure what they do.
Thanks for the info,
steve
