    Hi Guys,

Based on the research I did in this forum :D , I just ordered a M17x R3 with a 320GB hard disk, and plan to buy a another 500GB HHD from somewhere else and install myself. And I have several questions about how to proceed this...

    1. How can I install the HHD...I mean, I have read the instruction from service manual, but are there configuration that I need to do on the software side? And do I need to reinstall Win7 after adding this HHD?

    2. I am a totally newbie in terms of hardware knowledge...so could you recommend me some nice HHD that can perfectly fits M17x r3? and where to buy from..?

Please bear with my poor English, and Thanks and Good luck to all you guys!

First off, your English is very good.

1: There is no configuration you need to do. You do not need to reinstall windows 7 if you install the new HDD as a storage drive.

2: Western Digital Scorpio Black is a very good and fast HDD for a resonable price. You can buy it from almost every online store. I do not live in usa, so I do not know what online stores are popular, but you can find it almost everywhere.

Agree, I'm running 2 scorpio blacks (500GB) and they are very reasonably priced and performance is great. In the US you can buy them at Best Buy, or of course Amazon or some other similar online retailer.

    Have fun!

And during searching these HDD on newegg.com, found two very similar 500GB HDD with different model, one is WD5000BEKT the other is wd5000bpkt

    link:
Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black wd5000bpkt 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Can anyone tell me what's difference between them? and what you recommend me to choose?

    As always, thanks a lot!

    Hi tl1203,

From what I can tell the more expensive one uses less power then the cheaper one. Otherwise they look to be the same. I did a few google searches and from what I found it looks to be the only difference. If it were me, I'd save a few dollars and go with the less expensive one. Either should be good though.

    :)
