The power went out last night while my mx17r2 was idling on the desktop, now I'm getting roughly half the FPS in furmark. (about 54 instead of 100+)

Last time this happened I ended up reloading windows, but there must be a better way?

I have tried unpluggin it, removing the battery and hold the power button down.

    Oles chiefs,

Not to sure but I guess you can try the power drain.

Shut down the notebook. Remove the battery and then hold down the Alien head power button down for 2 mins and then plug everything back in and try booting up and testing again.

If that doesn't work you can try one step further with the same above + removing the CMOS battery for 5 - 10 mins then hold the Alien head down again 2 mins and plug back everything. See how you go chiefs.

How are games running? Sluggish as well?

Hmmsssss try going in and out of stealth mode a few times. Actually hitting the stealth mode button.

How do games run chief? or anything else? Perhaps also try reinstalling GPU drivers.
It sounds like something got tripped and corrupted when the power went out. So it needs to be fixed. Thats most likely why the reformat worked last time.

    Cheers. :)

Thanks I'm going to try that now.
I've only tried GTA IV so far and its quite choppy compared to the normal butter smooth.

Actually I remember having a similar issue like yours last time on my R1.
Its not stealth mode per say but seemed that somehow my GPU drivers or something got corrupted. So a clean uninstall of the GPU drivers and then a re install of some newer or the same driver fixed up the performance issues for me.

    Good Luck!

    Cheers. :)

Thanks reborn, I'll try that now. The bios and power drain didn't work. I really don't want to reload, espicaly everytime the power goes out or it gets accidently unplugged.

    Oles chiefs. No worries.

I just wanted to double check another thing. You have updated to dells new drivers and the new vbios for the 5870s correct?

If not you should do that.

    Cheers. :)

I just put on the new dell drivers but forgot about the vbios, just getting a copy now on my other laptop.
Right now with the newest drivers it gets to the welcome screen, then goes black and the welcome sound keeps playing one note (sounds like jar-jar-jar-jar-jar-jar)
Hopefully the new vbios will take care of this whole issue once and for all.

Yeh chiefs. The vbios should fix up your issues. I thought you already had it installed, sorry my mistake.

Make sure to clean out your old GPU drivers 1st and then install the new dell ones. Then flash to the new vbios.

So the usual driver sweeper and cc cleaner in safe mode. Then restart back into normal OS mode and install the new dell drivers. Then run the vbios program and make a bootable usb or cd/r. Then reboot and flash update the vbios.

    After the alien head splashes on the screen when you restart or boot up the notebook;
Just hit F8 each time to get into safe mode and F12 for when you want to bring up the boot menu to select the usb or cd/r to boot from to flash the vbios update.

    Cheers. :)

I got so distracted figuring out that I had to make the bios flash on my alienware and not my other laptop by the time I went into safe mode on my alm17x r2 to install make the flash drive I had already put on the new drivers and forgot about CCcleaner and driversweep.
Things are running better now.. sort of..... furmark is up to 64fps max and GTA benched a 54fps average, but it still feels a little stuttery when I play, like its freezing for a milsecond and then lurching ahead, could just be in my imgaination. Going to boot up COD MW2 now and see how that plays.

Thanks for your help..... Hopefully I can get this solved (or maybe it is solved) so I don't have to do a reloaded and redownload/backup of my steam games.

MW2 ran great up untill I was driving through some some (first level) then it seemed to stutter.

    Oles chiefs,

Kool Kool so you've done the vbios update then I gather.

You can try uninstalling the dell GPU driver like I said to above in safe mode and then try out the newer AMD 10.10 mobility drivers if you like.

Also actually before you do that you could also try to install all the CAP profiles as they help out in games quite a bit. Versions 10.8, 10.8a, 10.9 and 10.10 are all out now.

    Cheers. :)

Thanks in regards to the cap profiles. I didn't even know about them. I downloaded 10.10a and installed the manager program and GTA play smoothly and the furmark program is back to with in a frame or two or old speeds. Thanks for all the help. I just hope next time the laptop loses power while it on/get unplugged that once plugged back in things will work again with outh having to uninstall reinstall drivers.

    +1 rep !!!

    No worries chiefs,

Yeh the new vbios is supposed to fix up most of the bugs like that + many other power issues. You should be much better off with the new vbios and driver combo.

    Cheers. :)

Just my $0.02... The drop in performance may be because CrossfireX has been disabled for you.

Using the Dell official drivers, if the AC power disappeared (e.g. adapter was disconnected) while in-game, the drivers would disable CrossfireX. This change would be permanent, and you'd have to go and manually re-enable CrossfireX in the Catalyst Control Center.

This issue seems to have been fixed in the AMD/ATI 10.10 drivers. If CrossfireX is disabled due to running on battery only, it's re-enabled automatically when back on AC power. I'm not sure if this happens in-game or whether you need to restart the game, but it's certainly better than before.
