Im back with another problem. Seems Im good at/for those.

My system sounds and even sounds from webpages are no longer working. This just started about a week ago. Audio still works because I can play mp3s and other stuff like videos and movies. Im confused what to try and fix this.

I did try to modify my startup and shutdown sounds, but Im not sure if that was the cause or not as sampling the system sounds didnt work before I tried modifying them.

TIA for any help you can provide.

Ok I found out some new data and Im hoping that someone can help out with the new symptoms.

Turns out that my audio works on everything videos, mp3s, web sounds and audio from web videos (like youtube), but only through my headphones.

MP3s work from my system speakers.

    So I am totally confused.

    Any ideas?

OK I found out some new things. It seems that I have sounds through my speakers for MP3s and thats it.

But through headphones I have sounds for MP3s, Videos as well as Movies (via splayer), Webpage audio and video plus audio, but nothing except MP3s through the speakers.

    Im stumped any ideas?

Your may have a stuck trigger pin in one of your headphone jacks. Did this problem begin only after using headphones, or did you use simply test with headphones to try to figure out what is going wrong?

Also, try going to Control Panel > Sound and look at the Playback tab. Be sure the default playback device is Speakers (green circle with a white check mark). If it is not, right click on Speakers to set it as the default device. If it is already set correctly, choose something else as the default, and then re-select Speakers as default playback device.

    Hope this helps.

Well more weirdness abounds. Suddenly my sounds work again EXCEPT for my system sounds. So it wasn't the headphone jack thank God. The only think I do know is I hosed the system sounds somehow when trying to make them use "Alienware" sounds (Transformer sounds I downloaded) instead of some of the system sounds.

I don't know what else to try to do to try and fix that part. but its not a a major problem. I do know that I do get a "Boot" sounds that I was able to pre-configure but I forget how now. But still no log-on, log-off, or system sounds no matter what I try to do.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    FIXED

Turns out it was the c:\windows\system32\imageres.dll file. It was corrupt. I copied over it from my other laptop and all is good now.

    Yeah Me :D
