what temps do i need to be hitting on my new 6970? im hitting 74 after five minutes on furmark.

    fullscreen
    1280x720
    8x MSAA
    dynamic background
    burn in
    Xtreme burn-in
    Post FX

Edit: just realized the gpu-z shows gpu temp #3 is 4-5 degrees higher than the other 2. it reached about 85 #2 reached 79.5 and #1 reached 75. do i need to be concerned enough to take it apart and rearrange my thermal pads?

Not sure if you can do "better," but those temps aren't bad at all. Nothing to be worried about.

my single undervolted 6970m (710/900@0,96v) never goes more than 74.5 on all sensors.

i think 85 at 1,1v is ok, but it could be improved a little....maybe by 3-5-8?'C, r3's cooling is v.good but dell stock paste job sucks anyway :)

and just for your info, remember, single card will heat more compared to dual gpu system.

thanks flingin for the answer. while doing an overclock my screen turned black and had to reinstall drivers. i went ahead and pulled my card out and looked it over. i had some .5mm pads that other people said they used but looked thinner than the stock pads so i put the stock pads back on. havent done any heavy stress testing but my idle temps already look 2-3 degrees lower.

Edit: did stress test using same settings and got 78 degrees on my hottest sensor.

jimbo, did you do a repaste? Your temps aren't bad, but can be better.

My 6990 should run hotter than your 6970, and i stabilize at 67c after 5 mins in furmark. This is after a repaste with PK-1

i have a different paste than you which probably has something to do with it. i have arctic silver 5. i upgraded from the 6870 so i had no choice but to use new paste.

AS5 ain't bad...but it only works good under good application and optimal contact conditions. I'd probably go with something like MX-4 or ocz freeze both of which work well under mediocre heatisnk to CPU/GPU contact.

PK-1 is awesome but there seems to be a shortage right now, probably a sign that the next gen prolimatech paste is on the way

i may wait awhile before doing another repaste. my temps seem fine right now so may wait a year or so before doing it again and ill order better paste when i do it. is that what you would recommend?
