i run witcher 2 smoothly on my computer...ubersampling off but everything else on as high as it goes...in 1920x1080

your xfire should be a tad faster than my computer so it should run it fine. I saw a huge improvement after downloading 11.9 cats

i noticed the opposite. I have all the latest patches installed and it helped a lot...with cats 11.9, there was maybe a 20% improvement.

I've got the same specs as yours, e.g. 940xm, 5870 xfire.

I maxed all the graphics settings except ultra-sampling and anti-aliasing, the game runs quite well with my system, I'd say it is really smooth, but my cpu temps sometimes go up to 85 -91 degrees and i'm just wondering what are your temps look like when playing the game?

btw, I flashed custom video bios for 5870s, they run @800/1000 that I believe :)

I have 920xm and 5870x fire as well on 11.9 drivers. I highly recommend repasting the heatsink and securing it firmly on the GPUs. My temps went from a max of 99 degrees in Witcher 2 to low 80s at 850/1100. I used Arctic mx-4

question to woshi, can you link a guide to how to flash the 5870s? I want to do it but I'm wondering if there's any adverse effect on using custom bios. I.E. driver issue or programs not recognizing the cards after you flash

i second crayon's thoughts. The stock paste job on both the CPU and GPU(s) are terrible. I took my heatsinks off and i was in shock (it was so bad)

Just disable Ubersampling and you'll be fine on 1920x1200 resolution.

man, I'm afraid I can't tell you where exactly I found that custom bios, but I believe that I started from here, and it was probably one of last a few posts on that thread directed me to the cutom bios flashing for the 5870s, but I can't sure though as it has been quite some time. There is no side effects after flashing the bios, but I haven't update ATI driver since that.

okay so i downloaded the latest amd drivers 11.9.

when first started witcher 2 again i had some weird visual effect going on that looked like the screen was just all bright and glowy not playable. did some reading and searching and found that my setting in catalyst control center for anti-aliasing needed to be set to let the application decide and it worked when i did that. But why is that the case?

I have been testing the game on different visual settings to see how smooth the game will run on highest resolution and i noticed that i have to have the shadows set to low. i just feel that i should be able to raise the shadow level to at least high and have complete smoothness during gameplay. i always play with ubersampling and vsync off.
