    Hi Guys,

I don't do much gaming on my laptop, but I do a lot of video conversions for my iPad etc. I use xilisoft to do my video conversion's and it used to do it brilliantly on my M17x R4 using the CUDA part of the GPU. Now I am using the M17 things are a different kettle of fish, for starters the software doesn't even recongise I have a Nvidia card unless I FN and switch the graphics card over. However, whenever I start my video conversions either through the Nvidia 770M GTX or the Intel integrated graphics card it gets to about 0.5% and then the laptop just turn's off. It doesn't shut down or crash.....it just turn's....off. And when I boot it up it doesn't show any warnings, it's kinda like it never happened?

Although before it shut's down, according to my desktop widget's the CPU cores are reaching 100C (I didn't feel much heat at the back of the laptop?) and the GPU core was at 57C

I also have the core i7 4800 if that helps and I have the 180W PSU.

Just wanted to put it out there and see if anyone has had this issue before I ring tech support.

    Thanks,

Its shutting down because the system is getting to hot for some reason. Are you sure the fan is running properly? If so, the cpu heatsink is probably not seated correctly and not making good thermal contact for transferring heat. :(

Could it be heat? I know the widgets say it's hitting 100c but the fans ain't even hit what I would say is 100% and doesn't feel like there's much heat coming from the vents. This is my third laptop has this one is only 4 weeks old. Hardly built to last it appears.

Try using a software to control the fans manually (HWInfo), clean the vents and fans. If the issue persists you could consider repasting the CPU.

What do you expect to be 100% fan speed btw?

You are sure you are running it with free airways? Nothing stopping air or making it go back into fan already heated?
Could be something on your desk? Or are you running it "laptop" style? If you do then no wonder :D

Well when I say 100% I mean, loud, plenty of air blowing, at best I think it hit 50% if I had to put a figure on it. It was also on a clean desk, and the I often clean to laptop, so the grill's are 100% clean Trome.

Alienware-L_Porras: I downloaded and tried HWinfo, which let me control the fans for the CPU, but it wouldn't let me control the speed or do anything for that matter to the GPU fan, neither would speedfan nor Nvidia performance. Seem's a bit strange?

Either way could it also be the PSU not upto the job?
