im going to be ordering my m17 in around a week (just holding out to see if there introducing anything new at E3). now im going for almost max in every aspect. but i can bring myself to pay over $1000 for the 920xm when i can get a 940xm on ebay (same supplier as joker) for just over $700. now i can't find it in anyway clear on there site, nor over the phone to alienware. if I just purchase mine with a 720qm, and buy a 940xm off ebay. Am i able to put it in myself and not completly void my warranty?.........what exactly is the situation here?

Thats exactly what I and many other members are doing. I've done it with systems in the past. Dell will not cover damage done by the user during CPU replacement, or damage caused by the CPU. But, if there are any issues and the system needs to be serviced, than just swap in your stock processor beforehand. I went with the i5 since it's cheaper. I currently have a 940XM on the way, and a 920XM in my possession so I'll be benching both, along with the i5 520. Just to see how much differant they are. Just don't sell your stock CPU.
Also, all the 940XM CPUs on ebay are engineering samples or qualification samples and are not backed by a warranty under intel. -

Not particularly, just gotta take your chances on them. You can find resellers that offer a warranty. I think some of the ones on ebay do.

Not really, pretty much plug and play. If you order the 940XM QS from lappymonkey on ebay, the chip comes from the UK, but the seller also offers a 1 year warranty on the product through himself and not intel. Thats who I ordered mine from.
